New to Texas

Hello everyone I'm new to Texas and the forums, am wondering where I should make a post or if I should edit this one to post a little about myself and my fishing experience to maybe get a some info on where or what would be good for me to start with here in Texas. (Didn't see an intro section but that could just be the fact I worked late and just made it home)

Which part of texas, fresh or salt?

San Antonio and saltwater is what I like to fish. I did most my fishing in central Florida on the east coast in the inter coastal waters or ports and inlets.

I also came from FL and fished for about 10 yrs off palm beach inlet..I miss going offshore for like 15 min and sitting in 300' of water...anyways.. I make it a habit
of dragging my 23' Mako to the coast every year at least twice a year..I go after
kingfish/dolphin and whatever else is hungry that day...I like Port Aransas.the inlet is huge and lots of bait...

Let me know what else you need to know- I live north of SA near Schertz, Tx..

I'd start out wade fishing and area that I could fish year round - no matter which way the wind blows, learning where structure is in that areas bays that will hold bait and therefore game fish. Then learn what lures and bait work best for you in that area.

The areas I wade fish it's not that hard to get a decent stringer of fish to take home.

From there you can buy a boat and expand your fishing knowledge.

I've been in SA for about a year and a half. Take the boat down to port a when I can and done pretty well with kingfish ect... We spent slot of time here in lake calaveras on the south east side of SA. Lots of big redfish. Pm me if you want some details.

There are a lot of similarities to our waters from where you are from Jeremy...except we don't have snook in PortA...and we have a different mangrove and it's totally unlike the mangroves you are used to.

Reds, trout, and flounder are year round game for us here on the flats and bays.

Thanks for all the replies I can't wait to hit the water. Will most likely be another month before I can switch over my Florida license for Texas, and get my fishing license. I am thinking I will most likely try to find a spot on the coast I can camp out and take the girl and her son with and wet a line and hope for the best. (The girl is why I relocated here with after gaming with online for about 4 years.) She likes to fish so I would like to take them to a spot that she and her son can enjoy even if its a slow day.

Just started working at Academy Sports in the hunting and fishing department so I also need to get out there and learn the local stuff. Kinda hard getting asked questions when I have not been able to hit the Texas waters yet. Most people have been telling me its about the same from the east coast Florida waters I have fished forever, but we always fished east coast and not the gulf so I guess it makes me feel out of place when I should just try and go with my gut feelings.

Welcome to Texas! I can't help with the coast tho g since I'm in the panhandle.
