Have you ever seen this knot to hook in 10 sec

Have you ever seen this knot to hook in 10 sec - 02/20/18 05:52 PM

Hi,

I'm Gabriel of Hitena. I just want to share a knot that is super neat and strongest I know for assist line to hook. Once get used, it could be done in 10 sec. Landed 275 lb Grouper with this knot before so don't worry abt reliability. Though we named it Hitena Knot, it has nothing to do with our products and you can do it with any hook and assist lines. Would be nice if you find this knot useful.

Thanks.

Looked like a clove hitch to me, with the tag end tucked under the running line.

Jim,

This is the detailed step for Hitena Knot - think this knot is different from clove hitch. Clove hitch makes 2 same loop before tug is pulled our between the loops whereas this knot is making 2 loops in different direction. Finally tag end makes another loop around running line at the end. Thanks.

Yep. It's a clove hitch, with the tag end tucked under the running line. Nothing wrong with a clove hitch; it's a good knot. I never thought of using it on a hook though.

where did the 10 seconds come in? looks like 30 sec to me. and with 15 or 20 lb braid in the wind, uh uh. might still be a good knot though.

I believe a palomar knot would be at least as strong, and much quicker to tie. But, hey, that doesn't mean his knot isn't viable......

I took another look at the clove hitch and yes our knot is the same at shank.

As for the strength of the knot, both of them give 100% of the strength so they are equally strong. Palomar is great knot but I prefer our knot to Palomar for following reasons,

Palomar
- Simple, very intuitive
- Base loop sits on eye
- Hook swings along the knot back and forth, left to right (this is the biggest downside for me)
- Not easy if line has high surface friction
- Have to cut away assist line (approx 2 times of shank length)
- Thick lines cannot go into the eye

Hitena
- Simple but more complicated than Palomar
- Base loop sits on shank
- No swing of hook
- Works even better with high surface friction lines
- No waste of assist line

Thanks.

Uni knot is faster to tie and one of the strongest knots ever.

Nice to see one of my favorite boy scout learned knot make it too fishing. I'll try it on my next white bass outing while flopping around in the wind with my kayak to see how easy it really is. I had been snelling or uni'ing.
