Anyone ever purchased a new boat in Oklahoma and have it titled in Texas? And finance it too? How did it go?

I bought one from out of state (Indiana), and the process was pretty easy. Just took the signed titles to the TPWD, paid the sales tax, and got the registration. Took about 20 minutes. The trailer you will have to register separately at your. county tax office. It was easy too.

We work with cross state purchases as a normal part of our business. Seems nobody buys a boat from the local dealer on the corner anymore.
Get a simple bill of sale signed from the seller and you as the buyer. It provides a very simple chain of ownership. Your state will like having that. Just a simple "who is buying what from who for how much".
Always pay attention to any current liens the seller might have. NEVER NEVER NEVER hand check or cash to a seller with a lien in place unless you are standing at his bank. Be sure the lien is released and the seller has proof of that.
Being able to have a clear title going to your state is what they need.
OK is a title holding state - that means the seller should have his title. If there is a lien it will be typed on the front. If there was a lien and it has been released, the seller should have a paper proving that.
Let us know if we can help.
Thank you,

You may save a few bucks up front, but what happens when you need service from a local dealer? Your boats going to set out on the lot until they get their customers taken care of, then yours.

I have not checked back on this thread for a while. This is a good point about dealers and service. In what we see, the guys driving the furthest are normally buying from a private party. Sometimes the distances are very large, 10 -12 hours drive time is not that uncommon anymore.
The internet opened up the world to us as a shopping area. As with everything, there are pros and cons.

I bought my new FX20 from a dealer in Georgia and it wasn't a problem at all. 2400 miles round trip. My 20hr service wasn't an issue either, it was at Rockwall Marine for a total of 5-6 hours. The dealer I purchased from has since helped me get a few accessories for the boat and has been very helpful even though they are 1200 miles away. I don't think the distance matters, it comes down to whether or not you chose a good dealer.
