North Texas Cold Water Tips... - 11/25/16 02:54 PM

Let's hear them...

The temperatures have dropped, so what are your current tips for North Texas?
I'm in Richardson...

time of day?
baits for bass, crappie, cat, etc.?
windy day opinions?
light wet/sprinkle days?
fish the sun spots or shade?
again...time of day that's working?

I went last week midday to Oak Point, and with other fishermen working, only 1 person caught 1 bass with almost no bites the rest of the time for any of us...so, what's working NOW?

time of day? - Doesn't matter for anything but Crappies it seems, and they are getting fun at night.

baits for bass, crappie, cat, etc.? Bass- Squarebills or drop-shot if they aren't active. Crappie- 1/16 or 1/32oz pink jighead with a light or translucent jig during the day, black and chartreuse at night.

windy day opinions? Go duck hunting

light wet/sprinkle days? For real go duck hunting

fish the sun spots or shade? Sun very tight to cover during the day, or anything that holds heat, rocks, logs or shallow water that warms up quicker.

again...time of day that's working? Go catch crappies at night it's fun.

Or just go duck hunting. cowboy

Oh, didn't realize this was an oak point only thread. Never fished there, more productive spots all around.

Nooooo, it's not Oak Point only.
That is simply where I went the other day.

I'm asking about all pond/bank fishing in the North Texas, or DFW areas.

Addendum: I fish the Richardson/Plano/North Dallas and all surrounding areas.

Gotcha, drop shotting has been head and shoulders the best for me in winter for bass in ponds. Don't pond fish for crappie, but in the creeks what I mentioned above has worked.

Mr. Fishbonz,
Do you simply mean to use smaller lures?
Do you mean to use lighter gear?
Do you mean to choose a couple baits and use only those?

Expound please and thanks for contributing.

I first answered for Oak Point on Lake Lewisville until I realized you probably mean the pond in Plano. In cooling water fish slower, deeper, use scents / attractants. Sometimes a strong cold front can turn a pond off completely but always fun to try. Find the deepest hole you can cast to and bobber fish with a crappie jig + nibble where the jig is just a few inches off of the bottom. If there is concrete fish that the same way slowly.

Appreciation for all comments...I may fish over in Nevada, Texas again today after 4. We'll see. If I don't make the time, I'll be playing music with my mom and dad, which is blast as well.

Addendum: Keep comments and tips coming! IN65
