Fish Finder from the Bank

Fish Finder from the Bank - 08/29/16 02:03 PM

Does anyone use, recommend or know of a Fish Finder that will work from the bank? I generally fish Ponds in DFW and I'm looking for one to sync to my smart phone or bluetooth etc.

Thanks!

I have a FishHunter but I find it useless for bank fishing. It works best with a minimum of 6' of water due to the angle of how the sonar works, which is deeper than the shoreline of the ponds I fish (where most of the bass are).

Which FishHunter did you decide to go with?

All good points and thanks for the links. I was concerned about depth initially and if they would actually work well in shallow water along a bank.

I have a Hummingbird RF10. I have used it in ponds and creeks. It is good for finding drop offs and depth but not so good at finding fish. Seem to get a lot of false returns. Anything below 4ft is suspect on what it is showing you.

I have the "Vexilar SonarPhone with Transducer Pod". I actually really like it. I haven't used any other portable ones. I do have experience with lower end boat electronics and it works just as well as they do. The Vexilar unit will function in 6 inches of water without a problem. I've have no problems locating structure and or fish with it. It's about as good as a hook2 (maybe hook3 but no better than that).

I actually use it on my kayak as well. One thing that you may want to consider is battery life of the unit. The Vexilar has about a 4 hour battery life. I'm not sure what the others are, but I didn't even think about that until I bought it. Good thing about is, I can save battery life by simply pulling it out of the water and it was automatically turn off. When I want it to turn back on, put it back in the water. If you search some of my posts, you will see where I reporting my finding with screen shots from my phone.

I'll be more than happy to answer any questions that you have on the Vexilar.

I saw a video on the iBobber. It shows depth and fish. Seems good! I think it is $100 from Amazon
