Loughridge Lake

Loughridge Lake - 07/22/16 08:54 PM

My kids and I drove up to Loughridge Lake to check it out for a possible "Hookie Day" from school this fall. In the parking lot nearly half the parking spots had piles of car window glass. Looked like smash and grab type auto break ins. Anyone heard if it's a real problem there? Makes me a little nervous. Other than that it looked like a great pond....err lake.

No idea, but if there was broken glass everywhere I can't think of any explanation other than smash and grabs. If your gut is telling you it might be an issue, I would listen to your gut. No need to risk, especially if your kid is with you. Plenty of other good places to fish out there.

The lake is not worth the risk. The water is very shallow and almost completely covered in weeds, to say nothing of the bad road one must travel to reach it. I also noticed drug paraphernalia along the access trail.

There is a hefty population of green sunfish in the lake, but the ones I caught were small.

Access to the water is limited, but there is a good pier in about 4 feet of water.

Decided to go with my gut and pass on Loughridge. Not worth it in my opinion. Instead went over to Colleyville Nature Center.

Well, how was the fishing at the Nature Center?

It was pretty good. It was my first time there. Lot's of bluegill and perch out of the small pond next to the parking lot. Then caught a few bass in the next "Bigger" pond. Overall it was a good morning. Will definitely be back.
