Grapevine Pond on Father's Day and my PB the next day - 06/28/16 08:35 AM
On Father's Day my dad and I went out to a pond I heard about in Grapevine. He caught three in and I caught one in two hours. It didn't take him long to catch one, then the next came about 20 min later, another 15 min after lose a frog leg to another fish, go to the truck get another frog and come back down and catch a third within an hour and 15 min. He caught all three on a Z-Man Frog. I on the other hand switched from Live Magic Shad, ChatterBaits, Flukes, Fin-S swimbaits, and any other swimbait, live action bait you can imagine until about an hour and 30 min in, I caught mine off a Z-Man Original Chatterbait and Live Magic Shad combo at the tail end of our session. I was hiding behind some tall cat-tails and casting around them and finally connected. We had a good fathers day. (SIDE NOTES: The picture is of him is his biggest fish that day, but the other two were around the same size. Also, He Has three kids and I have 1)
Then the next day my buddy Charlie and I go out there. I caught the first one off a Chatterbait. She wasn't big, but it got the trip started. Then it felt like hours before the next fish came and smacked his Arkansas Shiner and he definitely had the big fish at this point. I decided to check out the pond we had tried a week before and had no luck in. The cast couldnt have been more on the waters edge without being on grass, I let the ripples disappear, popped it twice and I see a big girl come out the water and go under, I give it a second underwater, and booooom, she was lipped. I wasted no time in hauling her in and when I got her in, I knew she was definitely over 4 LBs. We both couldn't figure whos fish was bigger so we called it even.
I think I won though...
