How to carry a heavy stringer

How to carry a heavy stringer - 04/14/16 06:17 PM

With creek fishing we are likely having to carry a full and heavy stringer of fish a considerable distance back to our cars. Whats an effective way to carry a heavy stringer? I tied it to a stick but it was still hard on the hands.

If there are 2 of you get a small limb and put fish in the middle and put on your shoulders. If only I person, either use a stick long enough not to let the fish spine you in the butt and throw over shoulder or carry a bucket and fill it up and then carry the rest on a stick. I've been on the lookout for a 6 gal bucket but they are hard to come by.

I clip them to my belt loop.

I have a great way but it wouldn't be easy for me to explain it in words. A video would be the best way to show someone. But the stringer is close to the fish and the stick never tries to twist in my hand. I can haul a limit out without any of the fish touching the ground.

If you've got a fairly clean trail, carry a rolled up tarp and a rope and slide'em on out. I normally just wrap it around a stick and carry them out over my back, but if I'm hiking more than a couple miles, the tarp comes in handy.
