Deeper brand sonar for bank fishing

Does anyone use one of these for bank fishing? Reviews seem pretty good.

There are many bank fishing sonar units on the market now. Maybe Consumer Reports has reviews out comparing them? They start from $40 and go up, the Deeper brand model you listed runs $200 and has pretty good reviews. I usually compare by reading the bad reviews and seeing if the things said are something I am willing to live with before purchasing...

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, I don't have any of them. I figured someone else might chime in to help though.

I've watched a number of videos about this item and it sounds great. I keep getting shut out and I would have thought someone here had one and could speak to its usefulness. Thank you for the info, lately I've been feeling like the idiot in you tag line.

No idiots here, well...not for asking questions anyways. I truly don't think a lot bank fisherman use sonar or anything to get a picture of what under the water looks like. We usually just toss a few lures and if we get stuck on something then we know there's some cover or brush there and if we catch a few fish then we fish that hole dry. Granted I think it would be awesome to have something to see it, maybe not necessary to have this high tech model but something would be nice. I guess the best that can be done here is to check out the reviews on Amazon, it has over 700 so that should be a good indication of what people think. I also imagine a few "cheap" boaters would probably try it to not to have to drop $1,000 on a Hummingbird or something like that.

I have one that I got as a gift, it's pretty cool. The app is nice and it's pretty easy to set up. Gives you the water temp, depth, and fish. You can record what your saw and replay it. I have only used it a couple weeks and I don't leave home without it. Great tool, you still have to put the fish on the stringer but, this will help.

I'm trying to get my 12 yo daughter interested and if she is catching fish she is having fun. It's not fun for her to sit around and not catch anything. I've spent too much time lately fishing and not enough catching. Head buster, you're correct about having to put them on the stringer but it helps to know if the fish are even there.

I've checked into several types including the sonar phone and ibobber. I like that the deeper has two frequencies.

I haven't tried the deeper brand but I bought the Lucky fish finder from Amazon for $72 and I like it. It will measure water surface temperature and depth. It will also detect fish and has a fish alarm. It is a 2 piece setup so you don't need a cell phone to use it.

I have the older non-directional 3d FishHunter that I've used a few times on both my kayak and from the bank on the Trinity River in Fort Worth. It's a little flaky connecting to a cheapy waterproof Kyocera Hydro Icon Android phone I bought specifically for fishing (takes a long time to connect, have to restart the app a few times), but connects pretty seamlessly with my Samsung Galaxy S4. It's extremely useful for finding depth and the fish finding seems pretty accurate, getting them to bite is a whole other matter though :P

I'm heading to San Diego next week for spring break with the kids and I'm planning on using it while pier fishing, we'll see how it goes there.

I'm looking at the fishhunter right now but wondering if I should start smaller. Decisions decisions...

I forgot to mention the FishHunter works best at 6' of water and above, otherwise it has to be right on top of the fish to find it. It looks like the newer one works at 4' and above, so something to consider if you're fishing shallow waters.

Most fish finders are useless in water less than. 4ft in sonar. The cone from the sonar will be small and only see a very small area. I have had a fish finder on my kayak for some time. It is a great tool to have. Knowing depth and depth changes will really help but finding fish with it unless they are loaded in one spot can be tricky. Fish don't show up in pretty little arches like they show on the simulator. Usually see lines or blobs. Sometimes you will get arches. But be warned underwater tree limbs show up looking like fish arches too. Thought I was fishing a tree loaded with crappie once turned out it was all the branches of the tree that were showing up on the screen. I just purchased a unit that has the Down scan to help identify the difference between trees and fish. So don't expect it to be the best answer to finding fish when you go out but it will aid you in knowing depth and depth changes.

Example2: This is another shot of the same crappie but you can see the blue lines as well those are other fish maybe sand bass that are swimming through during the scan.

Those are some of the best arches I have seen on that screen.

Yeah, they really shine in deep water when actually locating fish because the cone is much wider. Pretty much useless for anything but depth and structure in shallow.

I like the options on the Fish Hunter 3D, thinking of getting one for myself when I fish banks on the main lake off jettys.
5 transducers, 3D mapping, about $220 and comes with all the accessories that Deeper has not included.

After spending most of the day going over videos and reviews and our fishing habits and my wallet I think I'll go with the ibobber. I'm rarely in water over 15' deep so I don't really need a narrow cone. I'm ok with Bluetooth vice wifi. I like the smaller size and weight. Some of the talk was using up to 65 lb test line and a heavy rod. I can still use it in saltwater off piers and jetties. I can even use it as a conventional bobber and fish with it.
