Any opinions on the farthest cast spinning reel less than $300?

Highbread unlike a bait caster, the spool on a spinning reel remains motionless during a cast, so a spinning reel contributes nothing "mechanically" to your casting distance. Your casting distance will be affected mostly by the weight of your lure and the size of your line.

The design of the spool does have some effect on the way the line comes off the spool. I've heard this Daiwa can cast really really far but I've never used it myself.

Don't forget about the rod, its length and power to load up the bait/lure when casting.

I tried my friend's Daiwa reel on the same pole I had and it made a big difference. He had Daiwa Emcast. Just looking to see if there are other reels out there too that could maximize my distance.

Your reel doesn't have as much to do with casting distance as it does your choice of Rod, line and having a full spool of line.. The weight of your lure is all that is pulling your line off the spool in the case of a spinning reel.. A bait casting reel on the other hand is feeding line as the spool spins and then will have a greater effect on casting distance to have a smoother more adjustable breaking system.. When looking at spinning equipment strength of the reel, line cap, and a smooth drag.. But that's just my opinion..

The only way I could see the reel making a difference is the way it balances the rod when you cast , just a theory.

Also need to factor for the line size/weight on your spinning reel. I can't cast nearly as far with 20 lb. braid spooled than I can with 10 lb. braid spooled. Makes a big difference. Casting Differences between Fluro and braid as well. You just need to figure out the combination that works for you. Reel isn't the biggest determining factor in my humble opinion.

get you a 2500 series reel and a 7+ft Medium action rod. You should be able to cast 70+yds with it all day....as Scott mentioned...your rod size/flex and your line size are the 2 factors you have to watch. a 2500 series reel should be all you need for line and probably choose 10-15lb line....good luck!

Accuracy is more important than distance. The rod is the key to both accuracy and distance. A good 7 foot light or medium action rod and light line should give good results with any of the medium priced reels. If not, you may want to examine your technique. Practice is important.

I think my longest casts with my Shimano 2500 Stradic Ci4+ were made with a plain silver spoon and likely were 75 yard casts. Last night, I made some nice casts, probably 50 yards, with a Senko weightless worm rig with the tiniest of split shots above it. I was throwing 10 lbs. Sufix braid and an 8 lbs. Seaguar Invisx leader.

Lots of good info above: only a really crappy reel could influence a cast and it would be negatively. So, rod power and lemgth, line size (smaller the better), a proper lure (not too heavy or too light), bottom hand on the butt of the rod when casting, loading the rod like a trampoline and not slinging it, and perfecting the precise moment to pull your release finger off the line.

You will cover a lot of water.

I just put my reel in /7 foot rod instead of the 6'6" that I broke and spooled 10lb power pro instead of 15lb spiderwire ultracast and it casts a freaking mile now.

Yes, the biggest increase I have ever had in casting distance was switching my spinning gear to 10lb braid. Not just the thinner diameter of the line, but the lack of memory. It just peels off the spool.
