marine creek reservoir, need tips

marine creek reservoir, need tips - 06/11/15 06:13 PM

Did a quick search and found that most people agree this lake is hard to fish (especially from the bank), has anyone had decent success, if so mind sharing where and what? I wanted to pop on down and snag some fish but would love some advice before getting skunked laugh

Side note: any decent bass fishing around keller (new to the area)?

MCR has fish in it but not a real big population - sandies, crappie, largemouth, catfish - dont expect gangbusting numbers unless you go for bream.
I would say run to Grapevine, but at 24ft high....well...
Some good ponds around Keller though.

Ahh bummer.

Where are these ponds located? laugh I actually prefer pond fishing so I'm pretty excited to hear that.

There are no fish in MC, go elsewhere! breakdance

Keller Town Hall. There are two ponds there. Also, take a look at google maps. Productive ponds are hard to find but city ponds can be hidden gems.

And, apparently, anyone that has figured Marine Creek lake out refuses to speak about it. I love fishing there, but I've never caught anything much over a pound and a good numbers day is three or four bass (in like six hours). I've taken my kayak out there. It's great for that, but still didn't figure it out.

I think I have already posted somewhere else that I went out last week and caught 4 very small LMBs from the cove leading back into the ski area. Size? About 11" or so. I did see some bait fish swimming along the bank and that is a good sign.

I threw a weightless worm, found the fish well off the bank on a very slow presentation: just letting the plastic worm sit there for a minute or so before pulling it slowly forward a few feet, then another long stop.

Hmm? At least on that vegetation line on that side of the lake, I just didn't get any bites on the outside edge of it, again a bit farther out in deeper water.

Oh! Then I went out a few days later, got nothing, not a single bite.

The 4 fish in about 2 hours in the mid evening was okay so I'll try again. From the fishing canoe next time to check out other areas.

If your fishing around the ski club I have always done well on dark finesse jigs, buzz baits and white flukes over the last few years a lot of people are keeping everything they catch and that chaps my arse I have started calling the game warden when I see this MC is a good little lake and with an 18" limit they expect it to be even better in the future

My roommate and I used to fish marine creek all the time. We had our best luck in the evenings near the north corner by the college. We were in a little Jon boat but where we fished can be fished from the bank. He caught his using a 6" Texas rig work and I caught mine on a 1/2 oz crankbait. Most of the ones we caught were all around 10"-12". It sure is fun though. We've also had luck fishing off the main point. Recently we went out and fished right by the police training academy at TCC and had some luck catching some white bass. He also caught a small LMB right under the dock with a wacky worm
