College Station/Bryan?

Any good spots in or near city limits? I've gone out to a few ponds but haven't been able to get anything big.

"good" is all relative.

All the city ponds have small abundant sunfish. Cy Miller (CSPD pond) is my favorite.

Bass fishing will suck everywhere. You might catch 1 or 2 quickies on a first pass then you're working tail off for anything further.

Bush Library after stockings (probably less now that 41 doesn't get around as much) is the best bank fishing for bass though, I've heard decent reports about finfeather lake and the Bryan Golf Course. The pond behind the Bryan Target was decent as of 2010.

Carter Creek at right of ways is an interesting one. That creek is LOADED with spotted bass. Don't expect anything big...ever.

Central Park's smaller pond is stocked every 2 weeks with trout DEC-MAR and 1-3 lb channel catfish ever MAY-AUG. It's decent after it gets stocked.

Central Park's larger pond has some good bass, but you either catch none, or a 3+.

Decent bankfishing at the Little Brazos off 21. Get there when it first clears for a few spotted bass.

Lots of neighborhood ponds that are decent if you know people or are feeling frisky. Lots of small bass in research park for that matter...

You could give Lake Bryan a try. I've had some decent luck in the past catching bass along the dam side of the lake. Try a rattle-trap and work it through the rocks. Also, the Crappie will come shallow to spawn in the spring. The small channel that connects the two sides of the lake is a good place to catch them.

I haven't fished out there in about 10 years so not sure how the lake fishes currently.

Good luck & Gig em'

the pond being target in bryan used to be outrageous, but like you said that was 2010ish. but i would have to agree that the cspd pond would have been my favorite, there are some really big bass in there too. i also had pretty good luck at gabbard park

roflmao

Cy Miller, and Bryan Municipal golf course were always good for me. Caught many 3+ lbers out of them, with some really good days. Finfeather has a ton of bass in it, but it's way overpopulated so they're all small. If you catch a 2 lber out there its a good one. I always hear everyone talking about George Bush Library, but I fished it a lot when i first started school and only ever caught one or two 10" bass at a time.

The brazos center/target pond is my go to spot. Usually have good success out there working a jig. Caught a good 3lber out there this afternoon during a quick run.
I've been wanting to hit up the little brazos, but just wasn't too sure about it. Thanks to aggiegolfer for the recommendation.

Used to have some really good results out at George Bush library on hotdogs, in front of the bench by the bridge in the back left corner. For a while every single fish was right at 3lbs and it was hard to catch anything different. Biggest I've seen out of there is a 4lb 2oz. Lots of stuff to get stuck on if you're dragging a lure on the bottom. If you have a jon boat or kayak, head out to Finfeather with an ultralight and you'll have fun for days. When I caught a 3lb 4oz LMB out of there you would've sworn I had just landed my first DD because I was so pumped, I've caught dozens right at 1lb. Like others have said, there are some good fish at the police station. There are nice bass in the pond behind Target in Bryan as well. Not sure if the netting material they have all over the bottom has broken down over the years but its easy to get treble hooks stuck in it and lose a lure. There is a pond behind SAMs that has a bunch of grass but, again, if you have a jon boat or kayak there are good fish in it. You can still catch them from the bank, you just have to be a little more creative.
