Foam head jig/fly?

I just started tying again and found 2 foam head jigs in my box that I've never done with. Has anyone ever done a floating jig before? Don't remember where I got them but I was thinking of adding a small amount of weight to make them sink slightly and make a minnow of some sort out of them.

I got nothin.
I find the idea of a floating jig oxymoronic. A jig hook is designed so that the hook shank is horizontal when it is suspended. It makes no sense in a floating fly. Most of them are, depending on the pattern, going to float horizontally anyway.
To satisfy my curiosity, could you post a pic of 1 of them, please? Maybe we can offer more patterns with a visual.

In Britain they tie a fly called a "Booby" and fish it off the bottom with a sinking line the fly suspends off the bottom.
The same can be done for bass and I guess any fish with the right lure. See the link below.

Both of you have given me some interesting ideas. I like the "booby" head idea and I think I'm going to try something like it. I also may look for some clearance flip flops just for the foam. I've got some hole punches that just might be able to cut a cylinder out so I can make a style of the booby that will kill them around here. I've got some lead tape I can use to regulate the depth of the critter when it's in the water.

After thinking on it a while, about all I came up with was HMK's hopper pattern from the "What have you tied this week? thread. With or without the deer hair wing.

Will do. This may end up as a fly or as a jig for an ultralight. No weight will be added to the jig but I'm thinking a small shot on the line if I use an ultralight with it.

Or with a sink tip on a fly rod, although I hate casting sink tips.
That's a good idea. You can float the fly just off the bottom or over top of a weed bed without getting hung up so much.

You gotta pay attention around here. The hole punch comment just solved my symmetry problem on the pet spoon project. Yea.

Glad I could help Zip. I've got 3 different versions of hole punches. One's the old pliers type. and 2 are used with a hammer. The ones for the hammer go from a hole that looks like it could be used with a needle all the way up to one my pinky can fit into so I should have something just the right size for a head or body of something.

I'll post of the one I just played with and it looks interesting. Tried it on an ultralight with a couple of split shot on it just to see what it would do. It's not a floating jig, but it is super light. Ended up taking the split shot off and could still cast it, but very short casts, so my guess is it was designed for a fly rod but weighs less than 1/64 of an ounce. It does sink, but really slowly.

The "Booby" is tied using two small styrofoam balls held together with fine netting similar to ladies stocking.
