An endless journey

A seemingly endless journey and an invitation to follow my footsteps as we learn about the Tellico Nymph Fly.

Tonight, my baby girl (dash hound) wanted attention. She's spoiled you know. So, instead of going to my tying bench, I sat down in my easy chair, put her in my lap. She was happy to be the center of my attention.

I picked up my phone and started watching fly tying videos as I petted her. Now here is where things take a turn. Internet research is like that. One click here, one click there. You go off on a journey. Tonight it was rivers and yarn.

I was watching the video at the link below. The fly is called the Tellico Nymph. As I would find out, Tellico is a river located mainly in Monroe County Tennessee that is about 53 miles long and renowned for its brook, brown, and rainbow trout fishing.

The body of this fly is made of yellow Antron yarn. A Google search for Antron yarn led me to several sites where I learned more than I ever wanted to know about "sparkle rug yarn."

All in all, a very enjoyable evening. So my question to the few that I didn't bore to death, does your quest to Ty flies lead you down similar paths?

Oh yes, it does. At least your quest kept you on subject. Mine usually starts innocent enough looking for a certain type of feather and ending up watching something about an East African Yellow-breasted Apalis (bird). And since the title contained "breasted", subsequent videos youtube considered relevant, took a definite downward spiral into spring break parties and tanning salons. Three hours later as i'm watching how they make luge sleds, I try to stand on two asleep legs wondering what it was I was originally looking for and hoping the video of a bot fly will permanently be erased from memory once I wake up in the morning.

There should be a YouTube Anonymous group that those afflicted can get help.

I've been down that road too! I've also started on a trek looking for materials to Ty a certain fly, then forgot what fly it was and what site I found it on.
