Re: Austin Angler Crawdad - 10/09/09 03:50 PM

So does it sink pretty slowly with that foam cylinder tied in under the body?

Re: Austin Angler Crawdad - 10/09/09 03:55 PM

It will sink slowly - sit on its tail with head up - waving the claws in the current.
Deadly clear water bug.

Re: Austin Angler Crawdad - 10/10/09 04:37 PM

OK, now what did I do with that brown Ultra-Suede sport coat I got to fat for?
I'll bet, too, that if you don't have the cylinder, you can roll your own out of some 3/4" wide strips.

Lookin' good, Sir! Thanks for the recipe

That's a great fly. I have an ultrasuede couch that is quite thankfully the wrong color. Otherwise there would be real problems at my house.

Super cool 'dad.

You sir, are somewhere between an entomologist, an artist and someone who has way too much time on their hands! They look fantastic, but I'm not sure if I could fish with them...they're just far too fancy.

Re: Austin Angler Crawdad - 03/19/10 06:57 AM

Thank you RobotDoc. All my flies are meant to be fished and just like tying the typical buggers and clousers, its just a matter of repetition. I've become a fishing bum, that's all.

Re: Austin Angler Crawdad - 03/19/10 10:35 AM

The Stoner Dad dosen't look as complicated to me as Joe Robinson's Mudbug. Seems like when Joe showed me how to tie his it has 43 separate steps to tie the fly.

Thanks Dale, what I called the Austin Angler Crawdad was Joe Robinson's Mudbug .... so long ago that I had forgotten the names but knew it came from Austin Angler origin via West Bank Angler's.

All three are fine occupations!

Yes, I have been silently admiring these flies for some time now. Shadow box stuff for sure!

Personally, I got the being a bum with "way too much time on their hands!" down pretty well, but can there's always room for improvement.

Brimbum, I'm glad you find the Stoner Dad less complicated. To be honest with you, I do as well. Yup, KISS. cheers

Sorry to revive this one from the grave, but can anyone recommend an affordable outlet for Ultrasuede? That stuff is like $9 a sheet for less than one square foot.
