Fly tying for me is more of a evolution of an idea than a recreation of something tried and true. The motive is always to improve upon the original fly based on how it performs and whether it catches fish. I've done this type of fly tying research so many years that it is almost instinctual. Add a good dose of resourcefulness and creativity with material use and there is no telling what might be born of the bench.
