Weedless jigs

Weedless jigs - 04/22/16 05:12 PM

After reading the post in the crappie section about weedless jigs, I finally decided to buy the mold & try them for myself.

The weedguards are softer than I figured they would be and i really think they will work great. Will be testing them in the very near future. thumb

I did some "southern engineering", so I could make the heads w/o the guard attached, then just glue them in later. MUCH easier to paint and tie this way!!!

Those look like they should do the job and look great. On the small light weights heavy Fishing line can be tied in or use glue to do about the same. But The 1/16 and over that is the way.

Really nice work and I always thought glueing them in after was best way, but have not seen heads like yours! Nice job!

Fished with these jigs this weekend. I missed a few strikes, but no more than the other guys in the boat (who where NOT using weedless jigs). We fished brush and I never did get hung up (untill a fish wrapped me up realmad)

These WILL be in my tackle box from now on. thumb

I used those until I found these:

They're a bit too large but you can cut them down to fit even 32nds:

I've tried every make of weed guard available and prefer these to wire/plastic, hands down. Bought in bulk, they're less than 10¢/each and the time I save tying them/jacking with the wire and plastic makes it affordable, in my opinion.

I'll average 15-20 fish before I have them tear up on me and missed strikes aren't an issue. Notice the jig on the right side in the picture above, the tip of the hook is closer to the edge of the rubber. If you miss a strike, just coax the tip of the hook to the edge of the rubber and it'll hang fish like no other weedless.

Hope this helps!

(Southern Pro Crappie Specialists makes these guards)....

Hey Jerry could you post that link, please? These are what I use but have been having to order from BPS. They are a little pricey from them.
Thanks

I have seen these at BPS, but just thought they were a gimmick. If they really work, I would like to try them also. thumb

It's in the link I gave ... you just have to select the drop down quantity of 1,000. Mine came to $96, with shipping and taxes included.

Shoot me your address and I'll send you a dozen to try (Mark)?

I tried some trimmed and untrimmed. I had no trouble either way, with hooking even little fish.

Very nice work REDGUN. I could use some of those weedless spinners if you want to sell a few.

Whaler15, I made the jigs that are pictured at the first of this post (regular head w/o spinner), after seeing the weedless spinner jig you are referring to. I believe those can be purchased from here:
