Throw lines or limb lines

Reminiscing here this morning.
Anybody still fish this way? I grew up with one foot in the ol Red River north of Bonham. Way back then one of our favorite ways to fish was with 5 hook "throw lines" usually with an old worn out cultivator plow or brick for a weight and staked in the river bank. If we could get back up in the Caney creek or the mouth of Blue on Oklahoma side when the river was up we would hang limb lines with a single hook. For bait we used big crawfish, mudcat, perch and sometimes just hand dug worms. When the river or creeks were on the rise the bigguns were almost always biting. Sure was fun running lines back then in the 50's and 60's. A couple of big yaller cats would feed the whole extended family. With 10 uncles and aunts and a passle of cousins it took a lot of fish to get er done on a weekend gathering. Never cooked them anyway but fried in cornmeal and grease from the hog killing we done at Christmas time.

Yes sir I have rediscovered limb lining this past year using kayaks, my grandson loves it-
We have to go back pretty far up in the creeks and just bait them just before dark and run them early the next morning-
We would only do it every couple of weeks and run 12-15 at a time cause we put out new ones each time, personally I just hate seeing lines that others would leave out and not maintain-
It wasn't that much trouble to set new lines each time, and in the warmer months the creek levels would change between visits so taking down and putting up new ones helps with optimal placement-
But yes, I enjoyed it sometimes-

Brake you've brought back some memories on Hog Lard fried catfish after a rendering,nothing better.

Never fried fish in rendered hog lard but have run a few limb lines.

Anybody that never et fish fried in pure hog lard don't know what they been missing.

Have run limblines and done pretty good. I usually catch more on trotlines either way it's a lot of fun. Never have had catfish fried in hog lard, sounds like a delicious way to get a heart attach. I'd try it for sure.

I limb line some but haven't done it in a few years because I started chasing white bass and hybrids more. Port Arthur limb lines are awesome (you can check them out on youtube). I bought a 3/4 inch PVC from Lowes and built my own version of it so I can easily have 20 limb lines in a small 2 gallon bucket. They set out in seconds just by using a cheap carabiner clip to a limb. If need be, I can set the depth in seconds also.

Buddy and I are getting a Pelican pond hopper next month and come warmer months are going to do bank poles for flatheads in the river for the first time. SOOOOOOO EXCITED

Funny how them bank poles and limb lines 3 to 6 ft off the bank catch the biggest flatheads. Especially if the water is muddy and rising.

OOOOOOOOH, BRO, we're going to be on the Elm Fork of the Trinity, it's gonna be on like donkey kong. Will be first time doing them so we will be spoiled.

Be careful using live sunfish. The snakes will get to them. Pulled a three foot one a couple weeks ago.

Limb lines are a blast. Used to run them on ponds for big channel cats. A lot of fun to see those limbs shaking. Bullheads or baby carp/goldfish were my choice bait, always seemed a tad hardier than bluegill/sunfish.

These lines work best up in the creeks during spring and early summer when big fish move up to spawn and feed.
