Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers

Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 09/21/17 12:11 AM

Gents,

I have gotten several calls from people asking all kinds of questions regarding the tournament/rules.

A lot of people seem to be hung up on the livewell rule. Let me explain....
Every boat must be equipped with a livewell, most people use 150qt coolers, tool boxes, totes or anything else that can hold enough water suitable for a few large catfish. These options are perfectly fine, no hanging fish on stringers or in toe sacks. Hope this helps....

Please if you have anyother questions please ask and I will try to clarify....I dont want anyone skipping out because they didnt understand a rule...thanks

A good aerator and a 5 gallon bucket to change the water frequently will go a long way!

Im using a 100 gallon livestock tank with a couple battery aerators......I'll refresh water with a 5 gallon bucket.

Can you catch bait between the hours of 1am and 7am on the lake?

No, all prefishing (including castnetting) must stop at 5 pm friday. If you need bait at that point you can get it from another lake but no activity from captains meeting friday until 7am sat

Re: Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 09/21/17 01:31 PM

Hmmmmmmm, so you can be on the water at 1, but can't throw your net for bait. That's a dumb rule if all winners are polygraphed anyways. In top of that we wait until after pre registration to come up with this. So guys that work Friday are pretty much screwed.

Re: Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 09/21/17 01:34 PM

So can I throw my net past 1287 bridge? Seems like I should be able to.
Posted By: mike9582

Re: Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 09/21/17 01:43 PM

Since I have pre registered, I have learned.... boundaries have changed, and no bait catching before legal catcishing hours. Smh. My plan was fishing past 1287, and to catch some fresh gizzards the morning of.

Re: Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 09/21/17 01:44 PM

Just my opinion and doesn't mean much but what advantages does catching bait in those hours give you over scouting structure in that same time frame doesn't ? Seems like if your on the water with graph on catching bait should be OK ...not trying to hurt the turnout in any way I'm just
curious ?

Re: Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 09/21/17 02:07 PM

Iv got a question. Is there an off limits period between the conclusion of fishing day 1, and 1am on day 2?
Posted By: Smoky

Re: Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 09/21/17 03:13 PM

@Mike, the 1 am start time is due to number of boats expected and limited ramp access. We didnt want people stuck at ramp past start of fishing times. We did not open it up at 1am to allow for cast netting. This is a PK tournament not Brazos river tournament, so in that regard the boundaries have never changed, we just set them! I apologize if you feel we have mislead you in any way on rules/tournament. If you want to send me a PM with your address I will send a full refund. Again, our goal is to put on the best run tournament we can. We realize we aren't going to make everyone happy, there will be rules/situations we might have to adjust after this and we understand that.

@Johnny, it has nothing to do with having an advantage. We are just trying to avoid any problems, ex...someone using a rod to catch perch...another boat drives by and thinks that angler is fishing....

@Jerry, I will have a discussion with Brian on this today, will follow up with an answer ASAP thanks

Re: Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 09/21/17 03:21 PM

Thanks smokey. I sure would hate to have to catch bait Thursday, or Friday morning and have to save it till Sunday. Would also hate to have to give up fishing time Saturday to catch fresh bait for Sunday.

Re: Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 09/21/17 03:30 PM

Thanks, and yes the boundaries have changed, the rules posted said possum kingdom, and all of its tributaries. As long as accessible by boat. No trailering allowed. It it is what it is.

Hey Mike I would stop at Dark Valley on the river before you get up to the lake, it is on the way there and there are some good shad. Don't tell nobody but there are some good sized river carpsuckers that might land a big ol' flathead. Just chunk some range cubes in and they will show up. Happy hunting and don't sweat the small stuff.

Ibdontnhave address right off hand but all this will be gone over in captains meeting

Re: Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 10/01/17 02:38 AM

Iv got another question. I think I remember seeing this somewhat covered in a previous post but I can't find it now. It is my understanding that we can launch from any ramp on the lake. I believe I also remember something about a cutoff time that a team must be at weigh in, or at a particular ramp. In addition there was something posted about spotters in place at a couple ramps. I know this will be covered in the captains meeting but can you expand any on that now? As someone that's never been to PK, I'd like to know as many details ahead of time so I can use what little time I have on the lake before the tournament as efficiency as possibly. Knowing where spotters will be, and where I have to check in at what time can help folks game plan on what ramps they want to use, and where they have to be at certain locations at certain times.

Re: Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 10/01/17 01:59 PM

You may use any ramp on Lake, we will have spotters at weigh in line at chamber of commerce, if we see there is going to be a long line at weigh in we will have spotters at a couple of the largely used ramps and hold anglers at ramp so are able to recirculate water at Lake, this will only be used if deemed necessary, I would expect main public ramp in front of Rockin S Bar and Grill will be one of the main ramps used, and Rock Creek Camp ramp.

No fishing intentionally or known baited holes.

Any LEGAL commercial or natural bait may be used.

All tournament boats must maintain a distance of 50 yards between each other while anchored and 50 feet while drifting. This includes all boats.

Re: Possum Kingdom Tournament Questions & Answers - 10/07/17 05:12 PM

Not a baited hole - soaking your bait. I guess the Any Legal commercial bait part means Yes.

When they ditched the Calcutta idea, the idea of big striper, or gar was tossed around. Have not heard anything since.

Talked to Bryan about this earlier, not sure if there will be a sub species category due to amount of time expected to take at weigh inn. Still rolling ideas around....
