Homemade catfish bait? - 06/02/17 03:02 PM

A few years ago I was cat fishing with my son, we wernt doing very good, but a guy fishing real close was wearing them out....i guess he felt sorry for us so he gave my little boy some kind of homemade dough bait in a zip lock bag...he said it was a recipe made from cattle cubes...it didn't stink and it held to a hook really well...best thing of all we caught fish on it...does anyone have a recipe for something like this you would share...feel free to Pm if you would like...the kids are out of school now and already talking about fishing...I'm gonna do my best to keep them on the water and off the video games...thanks.

I did this awhile back. Maybe you can adjust the amount of ground range cubes ground in. I find that plain ol shad will catch as good or better than the prepared baits. Good luck! making bait

This will catch catfish. Its more of a carp bait but I catch some channels and blues on it.

Flour and any type of soda. I usually use Pepsi or Dr. Pepper as that is what we drink around the house. On Lewisville I fish this bait all the time and catch about 2 cats for every 5-7 carp/buffalo. Not exactly "catfish bait" but its simple and will get some cats.

Troy King. Similar event happened to me on Lake Murvaul last year. This old timer was wearing out the channels over by the damn and he gave us some of what he called East Texas Spit. All it was Catfish Charlie dough bait ( red colored one) (std. small container) with a small individual lunch box container of apple sauce added, some honey and add enough flour to make it into a dough again. work it really hard and make sure everything is blended together. Not sticky and doesn't stink up your hands any longer. I keep some made at all times and just place it in sandwich bags. It will require that you squeeze it with your hands every time you fish to get the dough feel back into it. Stays on your hook really well and won't stink up your hands.

Use it on treble hooks and you will be surprised.

I am interested in your cattle cube bait if you get the recipe. Please forward to me, if possible.
Enjoy.

2 lbs. of cubes
1 cup of whole wheat flour
2 cups of bran flakes
4 tablespoons of vanilla extract

Put the cubes in a container and add enough water to just cover the cubes. Let these soak over-night to soften.
After the cubes have softened, mix all the ingredients with enough water to form a pretty stiff dough. If you get it to thin, just add a little more flour to the mix. Put the mix into old plastic butter dishes and refrigerate over-night. It will keep in the refrigerator for quite a while, but you can also freeze the containers for future use
