Found a few Lake Lavon

Found a few Lake Lavon - 04/19/17 07:53 PM

I finally got back to Lavon after about a 7 year hiatus from fishing there. Lake went down and then I just couldn't find time to go back once it rose back up over years. I stopped with 10 since it's just me and that will eat for a while at my house. Ima break down and get an electric knife. Took me forever to clean these things. Good luck out there!

QUESTION: Are there public places around Lavon to clean fish and dispose of the guts? Thanks!

Nice fish! To answer your question, you can't legally clean fish at any lake, they have to be at your residence or "camp" before they can be cleaned.

Palestine has a Fish cleaning station at the villages.and other lakes. So that's illegal?

lake houses are considered a residence or "final destination" so that's different, however, while not enforced in some cases, cleaning at the lake or on your boat is technically illegal.

Appreciate the info! I guess I'll have to just go on sundays since Monday is trash day.

Takes the guts and double or triple bag them and through them in your outside freezer if you have one. They freeze with no smell pretty quickly then on trash day take out the bag and toss it in the bin. Won't be thawed and smell before the trash picks them up. I do that with all my catch and never had an issue.

You can legally clean fish in Texas once you reach the mainland ( not including piers and jetties)You cannot clean fish while still on the water.

I believe you are mistaken.

You can clean fish from the shore. I fish with a Game Warden.

From the outdoor Annual

"Possession of Fish Taken from Public Water

Any fish caught must be taken by legal means and methods.

Fish caught and immediately released are not considered to be in your possession. Any fish not immediately released that are retained by using any type of holding device such as stringer, cooler, livewell, or bucket are considered in your possession and must adhere to established protected length and bag limits.

While fishing, it is illegal to be in possession of more fish than the daily bag limit or fish that are within a protected length limit.

In order to verify length and species, a fish caught may not have the head or tail removed and may not be filleted until an angler finally lands the catch on the mainland, a peninsula, or barrier island not including jetties or piers and does not transport the catch by boat. For broadbill swordfish and king mackerel, the head or tail may be removed but the remainder of the carcass must remain intact and may not be filleted. For sharks, only the head may be removed. The remainder of the carcass (including the tail) must remain intact and may not be filleted.

Any fish taken from public water and landed by boat or person in Texas must adhere to the protected length limits and daily bag and possession limits established for those fish in Texas, regardless of the state or country in which they were caught.

The bag limit for a guided fishing party is equal to the total number of persons in the boat licensed to fish or otherwise exempt from holding a license minus each fishing guide and fishing guide deckhand multiplied by the bag limit for each species harvested."

It says nothing about final destination. You are mixing up hunting regulations with fishing regulations.

Sooooooo....is there a spot on Lavon to do so? I'm not talking about just filleting on the shoreline, I mean a cleaning station?

Residence meaning?

Residence:
A permanent structure where a person regularly sleeps and keeps personal belongings such as furniture and clothes, but does not include a temporary abode or dwelling such as a hunting or fishing club, or any club house, cabin, tent, or trailer house or mobile home used as a hunting or fishing camp, or any hotel, motel or rooming house used on a temporary basis.
