Re: Drift socks - 01/06/17 12:21 AM

Probably. What kind of boat?

Re: Drift socks - 01/06/17 12:24 AM

Which ones? The Cabela's Advanced Anglers or Advanced Pro Series? Thx.

Re: Drift socks - 01/06/17 02:07 AM

I have a 20' bass boat but my dad has a 20' pontoon. I realize that 60"-70" socks might be over kill for a Bass boat but I don't want to have to buy 2 socks for each boat.

I got a big yellow one off eBay it was cheap and it is built out of heavy duty stuff. Don't know the name but you can't miss them bright yellow with red straps.

2 is always good... Just go at least one size bigger cause you can always choke em up tighter to the boat... cheers

Re: Drift socks - 01/06/17 04:29 AM

I run 2 of the cabelas pro series on my 17 foot deep v aluminum g3 and they work great. The cabelas pro series store in a smaller area than the big yellow ones we did have. I also have ropes with a float from academy tied to them. I think that that it helps keep them straight and high in the water column.

Re: Drift socks - 01/06/17 01:26 PM

The cheap Acadamy drift socks work great. I have one from Cabelas and two from Academy. I also bought a two pack of floats from Academy to add to the socks to keep them at the water's surface.

Re: Drift socks - 01/06/17 01:51 PM

I primarily drift fish and run a multitude of socks on my 19' skeeter. I match my socks with my speed. I can fish in up to 17mph winds and stay at .5mph. I have a red 60" Linde, (2) 54" blue linde, 36" and 30" yellow amazon. I use them all in different combinations to keep me below .5mph....get the tethers with the float, sock will sink without the float if it comes unattached and be gone gone. I get all mine on amazon for cheap

Re: Drift socks - 01/06/17 01:52 PM

I used to use two 5 gal buckets. I like the socks better when it comes time to hoist them into the boat.

Re: Drift socks - 01/06/17 01:59 PM

Those harness that Prime showed are great. With the float on, if you hang a big cat and he's fighting towards the sock, you just unhook and drift away. Then after you caught it, go back and re-hook. Had a buddy get hung up in the sock one time, ever sense we use those harness. I made my own, easy to make.

This probably would have saved me a couple of lost socks.

Re: Drift socks - 01/10/17 01:35 PM

I just bought one toat Bass Pro Shops to replace one of my Cabela's 42" ones I lost. I bought a 48". They had a 54" that wasn't much more. It I thought it would be best not to be too different from my other one. I didn't want to get unbalanced when I use two out the side.

+1 on the Academy and Lindy socks. Got the 54" Lindy on Amazon Prime for $29! thumb

Re: Drift socks - 01/11/17 02:35 AM

Anyone found any larger socks than the 78" Cabelas socks?

We have 8 of the 78" socks from Cabelas (pro series) and like them. But, on some days i'd like a bigger one.

Re: Drift socks - 01/11/17 03:06 AM

This might be a dumb question, but is a 60" socks the size of the opening or is it the length of the sock?

I'd imagine throwing 8 out at once would put the breaks on pretty hard. Must not be kidding when they say Twonk can get windy. roflmao

Socks are not on clearance at Temple or Killeen Academy's.

I didn't see them on the website either.

Re: Drift socks - 01/13/17 02:55 AM

Salsa they used to make a 84 inch which I have 2 of. I have been searching for a matching one for a while. On Sunday my blazer bay was .5 to .6 . I imagine your sea cat would need more.

Re: Drift socks - 01/15/17 11:20 PM

Been debating on what to get and glad I waited. Heads-up that Cabela's has the Pro Series on sale. Savings almost paid for both harnesses.

Re: Drift socks - 01/16/17 02:01 AM

Ok got another question. It's obvious that most people use big socks. Is it possible to go too big?

I always hear you need to be drifting at .5 mph or less. So I would think the bigger the sock, the slower you will drift, the better. Am I right?
Posted By: Txmedic033

Re: Drift socks - 01/16/17 04:19 AM

I prefer to drift between .5 and 1 mph and sometimes even faster. The fish don't have any issues catching up to the bait and I like to cover water. I prefer multiple drift socks so that I can use just enough to slow me down to the speed I want.

Gotta figure out what the fish want!! I drift right at .7 to .8 when i drift. If im running .5 or slower i turn my trolling motor on and lock it to the straight-line course to get me up to speed. Not saying it doesn't work but 1 mph and over seem too fast
