Punch Bait hook size ?

Anyone ever use a larger hook than #6 treble say #4 how did it work?

I use a #4 a lot. It seems to hold bait better, and when I am in bigger fish the hook up rate seems better.

#4 gamagatsu is the only hook that I use for punch bait, I've always had good success with them

Mr Whiskers (Tom Whitlock) has been catfish guiding for over 40 years, he uses a no 8. Said the catfish doesn't open his mouth very wide, like say a bass. My dad uses a no 6. I will out catch him 2 to 1.

I use a #2 sometimes but mostly stick with the #4. Still get good hook ups with less of them swelling the hooks. I use the red Eagle Claw lazer sharp hooks.

I use a #6 mainly because they seem to swallow smaller hooks more, and you can't ever get them out. They keep getting more and more proud of those hook at WalMart.

eBay is your friend. I agree on the #6. Benny Roberts says to use a #4.

I've been fishing #6 trebles with punch bait exclusively. I've tried #4's early on and they worked, but the #6 always did the job and used less bait.
When the bite is on you can go through a lot of bait in a hurry.
I target mostly smaller channels and blue cats.
The biggest blue I've caught on a #6 was a 25# blue and several from 15 to 19# range.

Our team uses #6 4X trebles.

#4's use too much bait. The 4X help keep the hook straight and not bent when removing Hook's from fish.

Thanks that's good to know.I won a bid on some off ebay they will go in my tackle box. I like the #6 but it seems to me when I get a nice fish the #6s don't get a good enough bite on the bigger fish.
