Brazos river catfishing - 06/22/16 09:08 PM

I am going to my new deer lease next weekend, the clear fork of the brazos runs through the lease. I have never fished rivers before, but I know it's a bit different than the lakes. Any advice on river fishing would be greatly appreciate . I do have a kayak there if I need to use it.

Typically speaking, the Clear Fork of the Brazos runs very shallow, making for some tough fishing unless you happen to have deep hole access at your new lease. If you do have some deeper areas, your typical catfish set up should work great. Congrats on getting a deer lease with a piece of the Brazos in it by the way. If you have a piece of river running through your property out in west Texas, you're going to have an abundance of game, ranging from ducks, deer, hogs and varmints.

I would start by trying to catch bait out of it. Maybe take some worms or anything to catch some bluegill, then use what you catch to go after catfish. I've had good luck in the clear fork catching big channel cat and flatheads both on live bluegill.
Good luck to you.
