Does those packages of shad in a bag you can get at academy etc... Work with a flip?

Don't waste your money, worthless. Too soft and will fall to pieces
Buy a cast net and throw it at the boat ramp. U can catch shad and sunfish fairly easy. Did that half my life until I got my first boat. You can go to the Asian market and buy skipjack tuna fresh and cut it up or fresh herring if you don't want to mess with a cast net. The key is FRESH, oily and stinky.

No, it doesn't work. Neither does any frozen shad you can buy commercially.

left it on the hook in the boat.
he did put up quiet a fight though.

We caught 8 channel cats this past weekend on frozen shad (that we caught the week before), but I'm sure that number would have doubled had we used fresh/live bait. The lake we were at didn't have hardly any bait fish, so we used what we had.
All catfish will eat frozen shad as long as it was frozen fresh and not too old...they just prefer fresh...something magic about fresh..I always Fresh freeze a bag of shad for just in case....if I don't need em they make good chum

I have not had any luck with the ones in the bag.
Did have some luck with some frozen skip jack tuna from the Asian market.
VERY oily and stinks bad, stays on the hook pretty well. For store bought baits thats the best luck I have had.

Medium size circle hooks work great for em
