Store Bought Catfish Bait - 01/26/16 02:56 PM

Any preferences? I'm going out to Lewisville to catfish in the next week or so. Going to take a trip to Academy/Cabelas for some bait. What is the kind where you guys have the best luck? fish

Sure Shot Punchbait. I believe you can still get it at the Denton address listed... Although the gate is no longer kept unlocked. I have heard you have to knock on the door.

There are several brands you can order that are made by some super anglers who post here. Judging by the post they get very good results. As for the general store stocked baits,Danny Kings Punch Bait has worked good for me. I fish in the South Central part of Texas and Big Marvs works the best down here. thumb

Pick up some Bar-s Hot dogs, unless you are casting far distances. sometimes the best bait is the simplest.. I would also pick up a small package of Chicken livers...

I'd take along some live worms and bait out one bottom pole. You never know what you might catch. If a cat doesn't come along, you'll probably haul in something that makes good cutbait.

In the interest of full disclosure... What brands do you distribute? You definitely should promote and believe in the product. I just it would be best to add the brands you distribute to your signature instead of using a generic catfish bait distributor signature.

Stubby, by all means promote your product. You are often posting big hauls and pictures are worth a thousand words. My point is that you clearly "disclose" your affiliation with your product in every post you make. It is a good business practice. It advertises your product and discloses your position at the same time.

Re: Store Bought Catfish Bait - 02/05/16 09:07 AM

Depends on whether I looking for eaters or monsters. For monsters I only use fresh caught bait that is naturally a food source for them. Those big ones are smart. To fill a freezer I like beef liver. It stays on the hook, it's bloodier and and has a strong smell to it. I have just had much better luck with it than chicken liver which is hard to keep on a hook without some sort of helper. The trick is to buy sliced beef liver and CUT it into strips or whatever shape you need for your hook. I like strips and use it like worms. A small treble hook and you can load up on channel cats or even smaller blues . Larger ones you are better off sticking with shad or blue gill. I have saved a ton of money of bait since I bought a castnet years ago. If you catch it in number, that's generally what they are eating.
