Gotta learn to throw a cast net

Any help getting started? I have a little 6 footer now, have a 10 footer on order.

ProKast Perfect Circle works like a charm for 6 - 8' radius nets...good luck on that 10' net. FYI...7' is the max in Texas waters.

I started out with a 7 ft SuperSpreader. I now throw a 5 ft net. The 7 ft one kept getting caught on the boat hand rails

I throw mostly peanuts, (shape) and occassional taco. You gotta be a pretty dump live bait to get caught in a taco. Good luck

Go with someone who knows how to throw it. Take your phone and video them. Download it on your computer or on your TV screen

Biggest I have thrown is an 8 footer (Texoma), but I threw it exactly how I throw all of my other ones. I would just practice a lot. There are a lot of variations out there on how to throw a net, find what is comfortable for you and do that.

Gizzard shad tend to keep their belly in the mud so yes, let it sink to the bottom.

Learn to throw one like this and you can throw everything from a 3 ft to a 14 ft and throw it well!

Any technique that requires the net be draped over you is not a good option when it is cold and you may have to throw multiple times to get what you need.

I wear wader jacket even in the summer went throwing net, $19 bought it on sale from Academy.

I found it very helpful to do these
1,hold up net to one side of your hip and do a U swing of lead around your leg to make sure they're free of any tangles.
2, use less of your arms to throw net, use upper body strength by coil your torso to the left about 90 degree then uncoil your upper body to throw net. Once you master this technique you can learn to use your legs to add extra strength to throw net further out. This will add more constancy with any of the technique mentioned above.

I started using this method last year and its super easy. Found the video on castnets.com website in the How To Throw section. The traditional way would kill my shoulder and this method is like a underhand pitch, very simple.

This is how I throw mine as well. You get way less wet than putting the net over your shoulder and I have no desire to put the net in my mouth. With a 5ft net i can throw pancakes on every cast. With a 7ft net its much more difficult and usually it looks like a pancake with a bite out of it lol. I noticed that the harder I throw and try to get distance with the 7ft, the worse the cast is. With a 5ft I can chunck it about 15ft but with the 7ft I need to throw it really gently.
