Best advise, buy a bass pro gift card and hide it from yourself until you have 300 more to put with it, then repeat again. Then you will be able to get ya one you will really enjoy. Like most of these guys will tell you get one size bigger than you can afford, if not you will wish you had later.
Someone on here was selling a 510 c for like 100 bucks it isn't sidescan and gps but if your just wanting a decent 2d unit the lcx series such as the 510 were some of the best lowrance has made in my opinion. Number one key is to learn the unit you got for deep water winter time blues I use 2d sonar exclusively and do ok.But yeah if you stumble onto some money get you top of the line unit but remember you have to put in the time to learn all the bells and whistles if you wanna get the most out of your money ive seen some people with 4,000 dollars worth of electronics that couldn't catch fish atall if it weren't for there binoculars If ya choose to get 2d only make sure you get navionics app on your cellphone
Come on now drawout you cant prove we cross the red river armed with skips & the latest spy-ware
On a brighter note about looking for a sonar all I can say is you'll get what you pay for...prices are coming down all the time thanks to every new model that is developed. I agree with saving $$$ that's what I did...and glad I did it too....To me side scan and down scan are a MUST......but like drawout said we used to graph them with the color series 522c's LCX series it goes on and on..
