Who says catfish gear can't catch big fish!!!! - 09/03/15 02:34 AM
Well started school started for me this past Monday and I've definitely taken advantage of my free time doing some fishing down here at the coast, catching some nice specks, flounder and the occasional slot redfish, but today was different. We took a stroll down to our campus pier for a little flounder fishing, naturally I'm going to throw my redfish rods out while I try for flounder, I have 2 12' ugly sticks with an Abu 6500 spooled with 30lb mono. Caught a couple flounder when all of a sudden one of my big rods starts screaming! Took off, set the hook and the fight was on. This fish almost spooled me on the first run but finally gained some line back and dug in for the long haul. Total it took me about 45min to get it in and when I did it was a huge surprise. The whole time I was thinking I had a 50"+ redfish that picked up the live sand trout I had on the line but when I got it to the bank it was a 5'8" bullshark!! Biggest shark anyone has seen caught off the campus pier, and my biggest from the bank. I just want this to be a wake up call for the doubters of a good catfish setup, CATFISH GEAR CAN CATCH BIG FISH!!!
