Summer blue cat question - 08/24/15 02:48 PM
I have no trouble catching all the channel cats I can handle. Problem is I don't prefer eating channels. I would rather eat a small blue. If I am catching channels in 8ft of water or less, is it reasonable to think I would find blues shallower too?
Thanks for your input,
Scooter

Caught them from 5 to 15 in a creek channel Saturday. Cut shad on bottom.
Small blues yes. My bigger fish are coming out of water 20 ft and more

It depends on what bait your throwing and what lake your fishing??

Sunday before last I caught blues in 5 fow on my homemade dough bait. I think this time of year the time of day may have some affect. After 9am all I caught were channels.
I caught 2 blues yesterday totaling 54 lbs in the middle of the day (noon to 2pm) in 20-25 fow. Weekend before were are small blues in under 10 fow.

Ok, thanks guys. I wasn't sure , I will defiantly use shad and it cut bait. I will be fishing Eagle Mountain, content with just a couple of eater blues. Only feeding the family.
Thanks for the pointers,
Scooter

We've been catching eater blues (<6 lbs) in 4-6ft along with some channel cats.

5-15ft been working well fishing points and flats at night using cut blue gills and shad.
Windier nights working out better off the bank as usual.
