lavon 380 bridge report. - 08/02/15 05:40 PM

fish there for 3 hours at night time. i saw only one car parked. I did get some action this time, which made it a little more interesting than my last outing. i caught 2 gars which didn't put up a fight i expected to get. as far as cat goes, nada. I missed a few bites which could have been cats, but who knows as i never saw the fish. Probably another gars. saw a snake.. man... I don't think I am going to fish there again... just not cool..

so far 0 for 3 since my journey started. I am not discouraged yet. i wonder if it's expected this time of the year.

I usually average 3 at night, which is nothing to brag about.

If you had a small boat and a trolling motor, it would be a different outcome. I'm going to find a boat for you, along with an offer you can't refuse.

How deep is it up there? Seems to me like most of the fist are liking it around 25 ft. You may just be fishing too shallow this too hot water.

I had good luck catching blue catfish at Brockdale Park in summer. Fish point cast out straight slight left. Wade out to waist deep and sling it out as far I you can. Moon lit night are more productive, you can catch shad along the shore just sought of the point.

True story, 3 or 4 years ago at that very point there was an Indian gentleman who fishing just a few yards from me... he actually brought his whole extended family 12 people and all and just one 10 foot catfish combo... after awhile he started to come over and talked to me and followed me every where... he asked me so many questions I ended up tied a quick dropper loop for him, put 4/0 circle hook , a 3 oz sinker and a fresh caught 8" gizzard shad with tail cut off, and told him basically as above paragraph. .. meanwhile I went back to catch my shad,... before I got back to my place an uproar erupted, his whole family was cheering him on fighting a pole bending catfish... 25 to 30 lbish blue catfish. ..

There is something about the rocks on 380. They are so treacherous to walk on. At least to me they are. The last few times I fished there I wore elbow and knee guards while walking on the rocks. And yes, if snakes bother you then stay away from this place. laugh

yeah.. i don't think i will fish 380.. i want to have a relaxed good time. when snakes are around, that's not possible.

Thanks for the tips guys. i'll keep in mind next time.

Bankfisher, that indian gentleman might be a pro by now, and that would not be possible had you not thrown him a rope. Thanks for sharing a nice story.

I am thinking about trying lewisville next time. either oak point or little elm park.

I went to 380 twice this year, didn't get a single bite in the morning. Try the dam, you'll definitely catch something.

thanks highbread. i don't mind getting skunked, but dealing with crowd is equally bad as dealing with that long thing with no legs. sometimes that long thing is better than some of those lunatics.

very long time ago, a dude was constantly crossing my line, i asked him to cast straight, rather than diagonally. but he never stopped as he thought i was fishing the hole even though i wasn't catching anything as usual. And that just pressed my button... long story short, he called cops on me after some damage was done. Cop laughed at him and told him you got a freaking 10k acreas to fish, and you want to fight over one spot? Cop let me go. smile bottom line, i just don't want to do shoulder to shoulder any more.. not worth it.

I agree with you totally... catfish fishing can be very relaxing, get yourself some good spinning reels and some 9-12 foot graphite rods, a good pair of wader,...chunk your baits out, sit back and relax, enjoy some cold drinks or snacks... I don't even use bells and none of my reels has clickers l, but some of my biggest fish were hooked when I was away from the polls or was taking a nap... lol can't be more relaxed than that, right? fish
Do secure your polls though, securing your poll helps to set the hook deeper and your gears won't go swimming with the fish. roflmao

Actually , that's somewhat decent information. 90% of bankers use spinning reels for catfishing from what I've seen in my limited experience . The bankers I've seen that use bait casters can either flat out cast a country mile and others are backlash bird nesting . I prefer using Penn spinning reels matched with heavier weights ( 5-8oz.) .
Also agree that patience can be a virtue bankfishing. Sometimes the fish don't even show up until the 4th quarter.

"limited experience" ... That's funny. Guess I'm in the 10% but moving toward spinning. 5 baitcaster, 3 spinning.

There's still fish in the 380 areas. From the last two weekends, 4.5-6.0ft has produced the most fish. Shallower has been less productive. Have not tried deeper but that's the goal this weekend.
