Found a new and very secluded place to launch my kayak. It is in paddling distance of my favorite summertime catfishing spot that is 3 or 4 miles from the nearest boat ramp. With this new discovery I was able to get back to this spot via my kayak and it didn't disappoint.

After about 3/4 of a mile of paddling, as I approach my destination, I spot I very large dead carp floating in the water. When I pull up next to it I notice a school of blue cats under it feeding on the carcass. They quickly scatter but I figured they wouldn't go far so I dropped anchor. I tied some twine to the carps tail and let it float out about 10 ft from my yak in hopes that it would keep the fish close. It did.

Had no luck catching shad so I threw out some chicken liver under a cork. Before I could bait my second pole the first one already had a fish on. I think the longest I had bait in the water before a bite was about 10 minutes. Ended up catching about 25 fish in a few hours, kept about 15 or so. Most were blues with a few channels mixed in. Chicken liver is so soft that a lot of fish were able to steal my bait, I should have caught more than I did.

Don't let anyone tell you that only channels will eat chicken liver, blues will eat it too. (I even caught a few blues on chunks of chicken breast that I dipped in the liver juice.)

I was also able to catch a few sandies and hybrids that were schooling around me when they came close enough. This little guy must have been hungry. The lure is 2 ft long, I swear!!!! lol

It was a fun day on the water.

Those little yellow bass will hit anything. They don't care how big it is.

Paddling that fish basket around must have been a real workout! Nice catch!

I catch as many blues on my homemade dough bait as I do channels. Also catch them on Chemdawgs bait just as well. Blues are voracious feeders when they are at it. I've caught them in Red River on about everything including yellow grasshoppers. Don't use shad if you don't want to catch blues. That lil yellow almost bit off more than it could chew.
Nice basket of eaters BTW
