Slip Bobber Setup for Channel Cats?

I have never used this method before but plan on trying it next time I go out. Here is my question? Can you set a bobber stop on a Zebco 202 or 404 reel or will it hang up inside and not cast well? I use open face reels but have someone fishing with me that can't use them so I give them the Zebcos. I do use them some myself... lots of fun catching a 3-5 lb. on a 202! Thanks for information.

I use the little forty dollar Garcia Black Max 2 reels. They cast good without bird nesting and will hold
a big big fish. Good drag system and 6.4 to 1 retrieve. I use 14 lb Cajun mono. 6.5 ft rod.
For a float I use the Thil 1" slip corks with split shot above a #4 or #6 treble hook.

I haven't had a problem with my daughter's zebco. Usually not fishing deep enough to have the knot go back on the reel though.

I like a spinning rig with 30lb braid.

If the Zebco's are built today like they were 50 years ago. The small pin on the spool inside the reel will foul up the depth setting of the bobber stop on the line. Problem can be solved by setting the bobber stop just shy of entering the reel.

If you use a Dacron bobber stop and trim the tag ends close to the knot, I would think it would slip right past the pin

if you are shallow enough a regal bobber is just fine all most times i am in less then 4 ft and if you set your bait 3 in off the bottom it will leave you plant of room

Thanks for the input... I am in about 6' deep water so if I set it just shy of going in the reel I should be about 5' deep, 1' off the bottom. That should work just fine. Thanks again...

Ive been making slip corks for sometime and nothing beats them.
Super sensitive. Im guessing the thinner and longer the cork the more sensitive it is.
Ive been fishing anywhere from 3ft-6ft of water to be in the range. i always fish middle first.
Meaning 3 1/2foot and moving the slipknot everyonce in awhile to make sure i can find the zone of where the fish are. So my ideal set up is slipknot, bead, cork-float, splitshot ,and treble hook or j hook.
6 inches to a foot off the bottem is good.

My Wife uses slip floats with a zebco 733 and a 888 and the walmart or acadmy ones work ok. Also if you use the split floats you can remove them and leave the plastic pegs on your line and go with a weight on the bottom for a tight line
