Gettin' my Boys into Fishin' (Pics) - 05/28/14 10:42 AM

First post here but have been a member over at the Hunting Forums a few years now. Been a long time fisherman but it had been almost 15 years since I had actually gone fishing. Hunting as taken up much of my time. smile

Anyhow I decided my boys both needed to learn and I am happy to say they are hooked! I am fortunate that here in Midland my uncle has a small pond stocked with channel cats. Over the last few weeks I've taken my boys numerous times and have had a blast. Here are a few pics.

My 2 year old with the rod. He actually almost caught one just a few minutes after this was taken but the fish got off.

The next few pics my 7 yr old caught including the largest cat caught out of the pond this year.

And my ugly arse with a few I've taken.

Also took a buddy, my father-in-law, and my cousin and his son out. All had a good time.

Few quick questions as well.

As you can see the pond we fish is not very big. Perhaps 100'x100' and 4-5 foot deep at the most.

I was told my uncle put in 48 cats a few months ago. Our luck has been very different with every day we go. The best luck we've had was 9 cats in less than 2 hours around 7-9pm. But most of the time we fish 2-4 hours without a single bite. We do usually catch 2-4 fish everytime we go but thought it odd that such a small pond and not much action.

Just found otu as well the pond level ahs gone down thanks to some gopher burrows. Could the cats possibly be dwelling within these burrows?

Thanks.

You are fortunate to have water. Nothing even close to Midland/Odessa. Congrats. Hope they survive the heat. Is your water coming from a well? If so it should keep the pond cooler. Nice cats. WTG on getting your boys hooked.
