Catfish Bait - 08/15/19 02:20 AM

Stubby's cheese bait is great for channel cats. You can get it from Stubby's, he's on the forum as Stubby77

What town do you live in? The reason I ask is that I may be able to suggest a store close to you that sells Stubby’s

Your best bet would be to call Stubby at8173665492 and have it mailed to you

What is magic bait?

I am FAR from an expert but if channel cat fishing I would stay away from store bought stuff. Shad chunks (fresh) would be great. Then if I could not get those maybe some night crawlers. Fish like those a lot. These guys swear by stubbys it might be worth a shot. I never had much faith in those dip or punch baits but people love them. They must work.

Good luck.

Trust in your bait means a lot. Point of order, Stubby’s is a cheese bait.

It’s a doughy type bait. Friend swore that as soon as it hit the water it would get hit....maybe I did it wrong who knows! I honestly think as soon as it hit the water it just disintegrated. Had better luck with just the ol worm or chicken liver! Ha

Grasshoppers are abundant now and can even be presented like a top water fly. Garlic shrimp always works for me.

Until Stubby's bait is delivered, try some raw chicken breast. Quarter sized piece.

And season the chicken breast with garlic!

Back in the day I would fish where the Ferguson power plant discharged in to the lake. Any catfish bait would catch you channels all day. Go pick up some large minnows and catch a variety of fish.

Another idea, take him with some worms and a bucket and catch a bunch of perch. Take those perch and use them as cut bait.

Bite was weird today. We still caught a little over 50, but it was tough on us. Missed a bunch.

I’m such a goober! He can catch the heck out of perch (which is what got him hooked into fishing to begin with) and I had just been throwing them back! Never thought about using them as bait!! Ugh

Small chuncks of bluegill works very well. I like it better than shad... I mean I am new at this, but I have caught more on bluegill than shad.

Mom, call Stubby and talk to him. He will tell you what to do and how to use his bait. Best advice you will ever get.

Stubbys is definstely the best. Be sure and get a bag of range cubes to bait is out your spot. My spots are usually close to channels and deeper water. Now i got inlaws who say i could blindly throw cubes and catch fish. I do not subscrobe to that belief and try ti be smart where i CV hum and fish. Find some blue heron along tge bank and go out to at least 15 feet deep from where they are and chum there would be a good way to choose a location. I do this in the winter especially.

Re: Catfish Bait - 09/05/19 02:42 PM

If you are not worried about the size of the catfish, then use a whole earthworm. If you chum the area, the catfish will run off the sunfish and you should catch a lot of small channel catfish. Earthworms will also catch drum, bass, carp, and big sunfish.
