drift socks - 06/06/18 05:47 PM
My brother has a 19 ft. aluminum Dura Craft bay series CC. What size drift socks are needed? Academy has one for 20-24 ft. and 16-20 ft. Would one of each work okay?

I have (2) 54in socks. 1 from amazon and 1 from BPS. I prefer the bps one because it has a floating pad sewn in the top and a weight sewn in the bottom making it fully open quickly, it keeps it on top of the water column. The other is just a standard sock and it tends to sink deeper in the water column. But I run a deep v 19ft Lowe and I can keep it from .3-5 in a stiff wind.

I had the bass pro one with the float and seems my lines catch on them more. I like the lindys better because they sink I have never had a line catch in them. I also think they slow the boat better when they sink.

I have a 22' bennington pontoon and I usually use 3 of the largest sox that Academy carries. I can't remember exactly the size they are but they work very well. I would recommend at least 2 of them.

I use this sock on my 24ft pontoon off the side. It does a good job in wind up to 15mph. When its more than that I move it to the front or add a smaller sock that I have.

I also have two 54” drift socks for a 21’ aluminum mod v boat. One usually is enough, but when it’s not, I just use both. In warmer water like it is now, half a mile per hour is probably as slow as you want to drift.
