Anyone ever use a chum for catfish? If so, what do you use?

I use the cheaper range cubes, and when serious will fill a bucket half-full with holes in it and tie to a tree off the bottom to fish on each time. Also buy bird feed in the economy bag at WalMart and sour it. It has milo, corn, and seeds in it. I got tired of dealing with a 50 lb. bag of milo so started using the bird feed. I just throw out a little of it after throwing out range cubes so the smell will attract them. Seems to work just as good.

Pick up some 2 1/2 gal jugs from a ag chem dealer. Make sure they did not have toxics in them. Fill about 2/3 full of wheat or milo and then fill with water and leave the cap off. After about a week, add water and cap them. Will keep forever and easy to handle and relatively clean way to put it out.

Any grain under water long enough until it sours will draw some cats and fly larva.

I use a large outdoor trash can with wheels from Walmart. Add 3 packs of yeast, 4 lbs. of sugar , 50 lb. sack of milo & 50 lb. sack of wheat. Add water stir with a hoe in about 2 weeks it will stop bubbling . Put it in 5 gallon bucket with a lid for transporting to lake . Tight lines

Either/Or/Both cubes and soured milo/corn will work. Try them both and use whatever one you prefer or both. Definitely use some type of chum.

Re: Catfish Chum - 02/21/18 03:30 PM

Maybe someone can answer this for me, but I have always heard that catfish can not digest corn and once small catfish eat the corn that it can clog up their intestines and they can die.

That is why I always sour ether milo or wheat, so they can pass it.
