Sunfish --- a work in progress...

Still working on the dang sunfish pattern ...

sunfish or perch. nice work

Shot another last night, but it's pretty close to the one at the beginning of the thread ....

I think it's time to go back to the drawing board ....it's not bad, but I definitely think it could be a lot better .

bo is the master of perch - sunfish, bluegill, you name it. If anyone can get you going in the right direction it is him.

I'll have to do a search and check his work out ...thanks for the tip !!!

Thanks to a search, some research, and some posts by boisarc, I just shot one that I think is greatly improved...ill post a pic tomorrow when the epoxy is dry

From what I have seen, it is not going to take long before you are right up there with greats on this site. Like Brad was saying, change is subtle and hard to see until you look back and compare. It is not hard to see that you have the touch so the journey should not be too hard.

for my money the one at the beginning of the thread is the best one. sometimes when you try to keep improving on a pattern it has the opposite affect. on some of them you just have to call it done and walk away.
remember with this stuff...less is more.

Most recent effort is really good...the purple-ish shading along the center line seals the deal. Doing three color patterns gets pretty old, pretty quick...don't be afraid to experiment...BC is one of the most creative guys on this subforum...by the way! Good to know the step by step posts are helping with your artwork. Very impressed with your progress in such a short time

The second one looks way more grey in the pic than in real life ....it's somewhere between moss green and gunmetal....ill just go straight moss next time ....

I'd throw ALL of those!! Each has its different subtleties just like in nature!! Very good paint jobs!

I caught one of those "green sunfish" yesterday on Pines with more Red in it than I've ever seen before! Usually they have more "blue" but might have been some cross breeding going on.

Thanks! Rare(at least for me) to see an anal fin so vividly colored!! It has the "hump" above the eyes of like a regular blue gill so this might be a 2nd or 3rd generation crossbreed!

I saved the picture. I may try and do a crankbait up using this as inspiration! Thanks again for the photo, absolutely beautiful fish !
