Finally got some more painted

Here are a few more that I have come up with. These are some of the first ones I have painted so any help or pointers are appreciated.

Bleeding shad jerk bait
I was really trying to play with the splatter pattern on this one. I know I got some overspray so my question is for the guys that use the preload and spray method for the splatter how do you avoid the mist? Do I need to spray from farther back or change the air pressure?

I do alot of splatterback, for me personally I like using the airbrush I have more control of it that way. I never liked the toothbrush effect. When I preload the brush I thin the paint more around 70/30 instead of 50/50, also usually turn the psi down about 5lbs less than I use to paint with. I always start with one pull back and just a slight tap down to see how heavy it will splatter. From there I adjust the amount of pulls back to suit how I want the splatter. Different paints and brushes respond differently so it is going to be something you personally will have to play around with. It's a fun Technique imo and I really enjoy doing it. Also every 10-12 taps clear the brush out a little to make sure your keeping good paint flow and it will keep the paint splattering better.

I think your baits look nice, one looks like the devcon was starting to set up while you were working it and it kinda has brush marks in it. It happens though, I'm not very good with epoxy topcoats myself.

I think it looks like you have some very fishable baits. Keep up the good work and you will keep getting better one bait at a time.

Try a artist sponge you'll be surprised on how good it works!

Experiment with air pressure vs. paint viscosity vs. nozzle size. As Brad posted you might also try the idea of pulling the trigger back a few times without air then blast with air at LOWER air pressure than normal. Lower pressures don't atomize the paint as much. Less atomization = bigger droplets. So don't use higher pressure with the stipple/splatter technique or your dots get too small.

The trick to large spatter:
Super low air pressure (the lower the pressure the bigger the dots). Also when doing large stipple/splatter at extemely low pressure it's best to have your work flat on a table because at low pressure the paint isn't going to spray like you're used to. Hope this helps.

is a very good bleeding effect. Sometimes over thinned red applied carefully along the gill edges makes for a very nice wounded prey effect, too. You're off to a great start...I would definitely fish any one of your lures. Thanks for posting your work.

Thanks everyone for the input. I will try the lower air pressure and thinner paint next time and see if I can get it dialed in.

I think the bleeding bait looks perfect as is......many times when baitfish are injured, there is a blush spot near the wound.

Chad's bait mimics the wound 5redman8 mentioned about as well as any I've seen

Really like Chad's Trap color so here's a suggestion that might help in the future...When you don't have the exact size eye for a bait and use have to use one that's a little smaller than the eye socket on the lure...(happens all the time)...sometimes using a darker color in and around the eye area gives the eye a "plaster of paris" look.
