Catfish under sandbass - 07/02/17 08:15 PM
Curious. Ive gotten cats on lures but does any one fish for them when sandies are on top? Tempted to start my trip early if I can get bait for catfish(shad vs perch?), where they school @ day break.
Yes they will follow schools of sandies

You don't really have to have schooling fish. Just thump a while and kitties will move in thinking the thumping is feeding fish above them. Happens almost always.

On the Tennessee River, cats are common underneath the white bass schools. The locals call them "Stripes". I say sandies and they give me this funny "What the heck are you talking about" look. I've yet to catch a Texas sized football out of this river.

It will be hard not to fish for sandies while on top, but I'll give it a try!

Have caught my biggest flatheads on big slabs under schools of sandbass. It's a great feeling when you get that THUMP and your rod doubles over from all that weight!
