Tripled up and out with the boys in with the girls - 03/06/17 04:58 AM
Fantastic day we lucked out that a family was in a hole that has really produced for us recently. We could have fished it as well as wide as the water was,but for what ever reason they were standing right where the fish wanted to be. They were pulling up 9"-12" males fast and furious. If they wouldn't have been there we may have been content to sit on them as the bigger females have been spotty. With the hole taken we almost changed rivers but tried deep before we left way down river right as it turns to lake below the first riffles. Casted around for five or six minutes then bang three fish in three cast. Then nothing again so I move down to a hole I love in low water years 20 yards down. Its normally riffles if the lake is low I work down to the rock ledge I fish there that is now under water and it was on! I don't think we caught any males all fat egg laden females with stunning bright blue fins. If you didn't give a dramatic long pause after the strip they wouldn't eat. If you did they would engulf the fly and rip the line out of your hand. They hit hard and fought like a runaway train till the bitter end. We were able to stand five feet apart and shoot the bull and catch fish one after another. Sandbass fishing is a real social event. Rain stopped for us right when we got there and a spectacular day on the water.
