Catching Shad?

What is the usual place shad are this time a year through January to catch for bait in a casting net?
Just having a hard time finding good schools for Striper bait

That can be a tough question at times. I catch them 2-3 times a week.
The best place to start is on the upper end of Lake ,in stained water ,at night
