Found the baby hybrids - 08/07/16 01:54 PM

So we had a beautiful day. No touch up on the photo. Sometimes the sky reflection on our lake when calm is beautiful. Fished all day with no luck with the water at 86 degrees. Then I decided to fish the lights. The water at a lit dock was exploding with action but they were all small. Jigged a few up...Very hard to see the 2 patch in mouth. Yesssssss hybrid babies. Lots of them. Grow baby grow.It was easy to get excited about these little fish. The future is bright.

Growth to 11 to 18 inches in length and 8 oz to 1 pound in the first year.
and 18 to 24 in length and 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 pounds in the second year is common. Growth rate declines rapidly with increasing age and is similar in males and females. Record weight for a hybrid hybrid striped bass is 27 pounds 5 ounces.

From what I've experienced at lake Somerville it takes almost three years to get a 20+ inch fish and there are very few over 8 pounds. lots of them in the 18+ / 4 to 5# class...
