No snake today on FPH but tried a new lure from up north.

No snake today on FPH but tried a new lure from up north. - 05/28/16 01:11 AM

I have been reading where up north they call Hybrids Wipers. I also read that they use a lure that dive 28 feet called a Reef Runner 800 so I ordered one. They said they catch walleye and wipers. I got the Bare Naked in the mail yesterday and went out today. Fishing has been slow and the ole' Bill Norman DD22 has been producing a few fish but not like usual since the lake filled up. Besides they quit making the Clown which works great in FPH. I tied on the Reef Runner 800, cranked up the music ( Michael Jackson) and trolled in 25-18' of water and..... Slam Slam Slam. 12 big ones not to mention some smalls. I caught fish every pass and didn't go 30 yards without a hook up. The wind was perfect at 12-15 mph and pushed up the shad. I think I found my new favorite lure and my arm is killing me from reeling. Videos to follow.

Ya might want to take a look at Yakima Baits Mag Lip lures. They have a unbelievable action to them.

I ordered 4 of the Bare Naked lures. 27 feet is a magic number for summer trolling. I'll report back after I try them.

How much line do you typically let out? I've been shooting for about 100' behind the boat. Too far? Still too close?

txfour, you can buy line counters and be much more precise with trolling. you can figure out by seeing how far they will dive by a combination of running speed and at what depth the lure will hit the bottom at what length of line let out. I've been very successful doing that for white bass during late summer when they roam around a lot and trolling is the most productive.

I usually let line out from the time it takes me to get a beer from the cooler, pop the top and put orange beer salt on the rim. I am guessing about 50 yards with that lure.
