If your launching from Lofers Bend or Harbor Master marina, Towash is the big creek to your right as you head out (between you and the State Park). Found sandies schooling out in front of Harbor Master last Sunday, from there back toward Towash. That may be the Towash flats that the other post was talking about. Threw # 4 Mepps and caught a 2-man limit in an hour. Found a few smaller to 20" stripers in the little creek just to the left of the State Park. Trolled white & chartruese jigs with 4" white grubs on Saturday evening right at dark. Sandies were on top in front of the State Park also.
Found surfacing sand bass for a few hours early at Towash flats. They wore rattle traps out. Wasn't a fish in the school over 6 or 7 inches. Dropped off the ledge into 40+ fow and marked huge schools. Jigged and trolled there for awhile and caught lots of striper. Again, 6 or 7 inches. Had fun but it was dink central. Wish I would have never seen the surfacing fish because I burned a lot of time fishing them. Will be back at Whitney soon and do some more searching.
Lol.... actually I am. She went with me to Cedar Creek and Whitney. She likes to fish but more than anything she just likes to be on the water. We are Central to lots of good lakes. But we like trying new lakes. Going to Ray Hubbard, Possum Kingdom, and Texoma before the year is out. RC and CC are my favorites. But I guess that's because I know them. But the last 3 days were definitely busy hitting 3 different lakes.
Sounds fun. We had about the same luck today at PK, lots of small ones. Heck, I'm happy with that, I was supposed to go away for work for a good while, but I get to work at home this round.
we just got back from whitney, had a great trip. caught a lot of white bass, many undersize largemouth. a few striper...mostly real small though. we did hook one really nice one was the only legal one we caught. maybe 25in. we didn't measure him but he was obviously legal.
we found suspending fish all over the cove mouths and channels....we vertical jigged for them...had very little luck getting these fish to bite.
whats the best presentation for these fish? have to be downriggers?
we did everything except troll or fish with live bait.
tried a variety of baits, slabs/jigs/grubs/jig-grub combinations, etc...tried everything from casting and letting sink to the bottom and then retrieving....to just dropping it down thru them and reeling back up. had a hard time getting those suspended fish to respond. possibly they just weren't active.
