I actually shocked my wife at Yawakoni on Saturday. She said it sounded stupid. Our results said otherwise.

So what is the technique here? Just bang a stick on the bottom of the boat?

Sandjohnny calls it the sand bass boogie! bannana2
It does seem to get their attention if they are in the area.

Re: thumping ? - 07/20/15 04:26 PM

so, if one were so inclined, one could install a subwoofer on their boat and bass (base) the bass to the boat?

Rather than do that, I just bought a Hydrowave with the "THUMPER" module. Thumps and bumps without me getting of my rumps. smile

are they $$$?

Re: thumping ? - 07/20/15 04:53 PM

Unfortunately..... YUP. You can buy a bunch of pvc pipes for the cost of Hydrowave.... but I fish alone a lot and don't want to thump and try to fish at the same time.

But if you already have a Hydrowave that takes the modules, then all you have to do is buy the module.

Hydrowave mini is like a $100, but doesn't have the thump sound.

What exactly is "thumping", how is it done and why ?

Re: thumping ? - 07/21/15 02:43 AM

I have also found out that if more than one boat is knocking in a close proximity to the other the fish stay scattered. On Hubbard if one boat is knocking and we are fishing really close together we may take turns knocking on the boat because it wears your arm out.

I can build you one for around $100. Parts aren't that much, if you want to DIY. http://www.4shared.com/video/8Mq0x2ruce/thumper_vids_010.html

Yes, it works. DON'T USE A SHARP STICK.

Re: thumping ? - 07/21/15 12:57 PM

Is there a certain cadence? Do you need to constantly thump or a couple of times a minute?? This is so crazy. I'm going to have to try it.

Re: thumping ? - 07/21/15 01:45 PM

I use a cane. People ask all the time if it works, I have to say it does. My cadence follows Led Zep songs...."Kashmir" works best!

I thump. I thump my sound system and the Hybrid go nuts. Their favorite song is Meghan Trainor - All About That Bass of course.

Re: thumping ? - 07/22/15 05:08 AM

I gotta say, I was pretty skeptical about this(still am).

Then today out on our kayaks, with no fish around, I started knocking on my hull and a small school (maybe a few fish) started feeding on the surface right between my wife and I.

It was gone in an instant, the wind kept us from staying over the fish, and we didn't catch any. But it would be a strange coincidence, that being the only surface activity we saw all day.

I told my wife that I needed to install some speakers and a stereo in my kayak now so she can catch more fish. She told me to keep knocking. bang

We'll see.

Get a softball and an old broom handle. Drill a hole in the softball and glue or epoxy the stick inside the hole. Works great and absolutely no marks or damage to the floor.
