They are releasing 9,000 CFS but inflow is still 50,000 CFS. At least it will slow the rise a bit.

quick question? When the dam is open do the fish come in right away or does it take them a while to start stacking up below the dam?

This is not correct. Dam only has 2 generators and flood gates will be opened when river stops flooding downstream of the lake.

I was there last weekend and that what Oklahoma GW told me. Maybe he gave me the wrong information.

Don't you read other post. Texoma is a flood control Lake. They will not release water until it is at 640. Then just enough to keep it there. The only way that will change is if the river below the dam goes down. They are releasing what the normally do, even in a drought period.

Check the corp web site.

Not quite right. The spillway is at 640 so it's an uncontrolled overflow at that level, regardless of downstream conditions. Their objective is to never get to 640. Conservation pool is 617 and that's the baseline target, although the target level changes depending on the season.

There actually was a lift down in the flood gates area about two weeks ago doing some kind of work. What is the level the guage at DeKalb has to get too before they can open the gates?

Posted on the Bank Fishing section but may be useful to others here....

Here is the post from our weblog from back in 2008 that shows how to read the real time release table. March 6, 2008

Interesting is that it shows 5,200 CFS to 11,075 CFS between 1600 and 1815 on 06MARCH2008.

A look at 2145 19MAY2015 shows 9,000 CFS.

May be seeing some pictures from other TFF Members in the near future!

Website shows gates now open. It is either open them or it definitely goes over spillway. Spillway will be uncontrolled. My bet is it is going over with recent rains and more on the way. Unfortunately I would bet on Broken Bow also going over.

Re: Texoma is Releasing Water - 05/20/15 04:28 PM

Soon after, the river crosses south into Louisiana. The sister cities of Shreveport and Bossier City were developed on either bank of the river, as did the downriver cities of Alexandria and Pineville; the river later broadens into a complex network of marshlands surrounding the Mississippi and Atchafalaya Rivers, where it is joined by the Ouachita River, its largest tributary. Its waters eventually discharge into the Atchafalaya River[6] and flow eastward or southward into the Gulf of Mexico.

Re: Texoma is Releasing Water - 05/20/15 09:19 PM

I was there today. Three of the six flood gates open with both generators running. The view from the overlook was of a flooded area about to go over the road to Eisenhower and very very close to going over the spillway. bet it makes it sometime this week and then all "control" will be lost.

Saw huge trees floating down by the dam.

Okay, fellows they are leting out water. I do not remember the CFM's
or whatever the rates are but here is how the local news described it
this morning. "dam is letting out the equivalent of 7 average
backyard swimming pulls per SECOND, unfortunately, the equivalent of
17 average backyard swimming pools per second is coming into the lake.

Road that crosses between spillway and lake will be closed to day. I
got that from the game warden this morning at 6 am. Lake is rising
about a foot per day. it was at 636 this morning. It will probably
go over spillway Sunday. I fished this morning and caught some
stripers. All small, all on topwaters. Inside the dam, not below.

One phone call can solve all of this for you guys. You can call the Army Corps of Engineers, there is an updated recording everyday that tells the lake elevation, the temp, the generation schedule, and the floodgate discharge. Readings are taken at 8:00 a.m. The number is 903-465-1491. So just for the update, as of 8:00 this morning the lake elevation is a little over 636' (617' normal) and they are releasing 35,100 cubic feet per second. Hope this helps. Oh and on another note I have a boat slip at Big Mineral, or at least I did have. Quiet a bit of damage to several boathouses.
