What are you fishing with for suspended stripers?

I found them in 60 feet of water suspended about 50 feet down. I threw everything I had and nothing worked. I marked quite a few fish but couldn't get them to bite. Pictures or direct links and how you fish them would be helpful. I saw umbrella rigs but man that's some money for one rig. Also I do not have a shad tank, would sinking a large bass minnow down, entice them?
