Tawakoni @ 48 degrees this morning! Report & **pics** - 09/19/12 10:34 PM
Was washing my boat out yesterday evening and noticed the water hitting my toes wasn't warm! Weather man said it would get into the middle 50's overnight...BUT he didn't say anything bout' tha 40's!
My ole' 2-stroke didn't start on the first crank this morning and that means fall has arrived! We've been doing tons of catfishing lately and i've had to pass by schooling fish the last couple weeks and just let others catch them. Well, today was different.
My buddy and long time customer Corey joined me today and for the first time had Teri on the boat during a guide trip and Hybrids was what he was wanting. We got set up at ground ZERO at 6:20 and it was a waiting game. Sun came up....and not a mouse stirring. An explosion here...an explosion there...but NOTHING that says come here and catch me. As we were waiting for surface activity Teri says: "huge school, right side of the boat - 70ft! Without thinking, I casted, so did Corey and we both were HOOKED UP w/ fat, fall-frenzied hybrids. Teri brought up the rear and plucked a triple to start things off. We repeated that till we were tired of catching them. Fish did try and school...but I have to say to the fish...that was a lousy excuse for schooling this morning.
At 9:15 a.m. Corey said... "so, we wan't to head in..."...I asked him if he wanted to get a quick limit of some fat catfish and he coulden't say YES fast enough. So, we made a run and on first cast, Corey landed a nice 3lber...and it went on till we decided to go in and clean fish. And, even at the dock Corey still managed to stay tight!
Overall the lake is picking up. No need to carry live bait ought with you unless you just want to. Water temp today was 72 at the ramp at 6:00a.m. but by the time I rounded cloud point in open water it was 77 and by the time we got on fish it was a solid 78.
Lake is dropping fast, keep an eye out for stumps, shallow points and sand bars.
October is almost here and I have a feeling.......it's gonna be GOOD! GREAT!
All fish caught today on Fle-Fly's Bendable Minnow and Classic Slab. www.flefly.com
Corey stays in the ManCave often and loves fresh fish for lunch. We got back in off tha water about 11:15a.m. and fired up the fryer....YUM! Fresh fish, home-made onion rings and fresh taters - slap yo' mama!
