Fished with repeat guest Barron , son Brian and coworker ... Stated out at 8:00 am and had 75 fish limits by 9:40 am ... Moved about 200-300 yards out and screen was blank .. Did a little fish calling and the graph lite up when we where limited with whites we went hybrid hunting .. Well .. We found more whites and 1 legal hybrid ... But thats ok .. We stayed busy till 12:00 pm and went in to clean fish .. Use small slabs and very little movement on them is the trick .. Luckily for us the wind was light enough to drift but the fish stayed with us these where huge whites ... And soft bite .. Make for an excellent day .. All fish caught on 3/4 oz godfathers from www.moestackleshop.com in 27-32
ft water .. Winds where S-SE at 5-10 and ways temps where 52 degrees ... The pic below is not all the fish .. There was another 26 in the live well ...

Another Bump for Mr. John Varner. This is one of the greats on Hubbard so Y'all book a trip with him

Had the chance to have action Jackson and his friend Nick on the boat today for Jackson birthday that is tomorrow started at 8:00 am broke for lunch at 11:30 am then fished from 12:30 pm till 2:00 pm ... If u got that started out with strong West winds and fighting strong whites I have to say the winds today where brutal .. My twin brother Todd was out with "ladies man" RAY and they were on fish as usual .. When that furious action stopped we went to look in a little calmer waters , that wind switched to the North West and the bite slowed and spear the fish out .. We managed more but scattered ... Don't know how many whites we caught but a limit for 3 would be close and managed some legal hybrids and shorties also .. Water temp was 58-59 degrees which is insane this time of year and winds were bad fish caught from me on slabs from www.moestackleshop.com with some plastics .. Just drifting in the rod holders , flukes .. They still work but will start with CO-HO's real soon ... The small 3/4 oz slabs have worked best for me in 22-28 ft water .. Just a slow lift not to fast ... It's was a good but windy day ... Thanks guys !!!

Great report, you gotta love this warm weather. I also got some timely pics today while I was work, thanks Todd. Hopefully they will still be biting tomorrow, at the present time my wife is accompanying me but, I have a feeling that will play out in the morning. I keep telling her 60 degrees is warm and it will be really nice out tomorrow, she keeps asking me why I want the temp at home set to 69 degrees if 60 is so pleasant.

Fish with first-time guest Tommy, Oanh and Tu . Left the marina at 12:30 PM and fished till 5:40 PM. Started out bouncing slabs off the bottom for white bass and made several drifts and caught a lot of fish. Our magic depth for the white bass was 24 feet and we would get schools of fish underneath the boat and hook up. When that finally played out we moved around the lake check just a couple of spots and at one time I looked up and had birds working out in deep water. I tied on the sassy shads and we started hooking up with hybrids. The birds moved to another area but we stayed with our drift and caught numerous fish. It's was an excellent day on the water. Don't forget in deep water let the sassy shad sink all the way to the bottom and just do a slow to medium crank. We hammered them with the Nanna color 4 inch on a 3/4 oz jig head... Just remember when the birds stop working doesn't mean the fish have left . The 3/4 oz godfather topped with sandie candy was the white bass killer of the day . All fish caught on tackle from www.moestackleshop.com in 24-32 ft water. Winds were North 5-15 mph and temp was 56 degrees. I still have some dates open for spring break at my special 3 for 2 ... That's $250.00 for 3 people. Give me a call !!!

Fished today with guest Asian 1, Asian 2 , and lovely Asian 3 .. ( don't blame me that's what they said report lol ... We had a great day today .. Started at 1:00pm ...oh wait , Asian 2 was late started at 2:00 pm and fished till 5:30pm ... Made a few drifts and the fish I have been catching where very scattered ... So we went looking ... Tried another stop with some big whites and 1 hybrid that was lost .. Yup .. U guessed it .. Asian 2 again seen a boat show across the lake and went to investigate .. Moved 200 yards away from them and checked and area that I like and it was fish on
!!! Hooked 9 legal hybrids and the rest of their white bass limit !!!! I never dropped the trolling motor today .. All drifts .. And believe it or not the 7 hybrids came on 3/4 godfather slabs and the other 2 on sassy shad Nanna color ... All fish caught on lures from www.moestackleshop.com in 24-29 ft water .. Winds where a pleasant 5-12 mph S and water temps where 57 degrees .. I still have a couple days open during spring break at the special price 3 for the price of 2 .. Wow!

Spring break is about over and what a week it has been won't write about each day because that would be way to long of a post ... Fished Monday , 2 trips on Wednesday , Thursday   and 2 trips on Friday . Some only kept a few and some kept there limit of whites . The week started out strong and by Friday had to work a little bit .And finished Sunday (today) with a windy performance .. 6 legal hybrids and a mess of white bass ... The whites were all quality size and found a few hybrids mixed in . Afternoons have been easier then mornings . It is pretty neat to catch fish starting a few months back down south and follow their migration to north . It happens every year. I really enjoy spring break cause of the kids that get to fish this week has been everything from barely marking fish hugging the bottom to blown up screens to fish blowing shad out of the water !!!! All fish were. Aught on 3/4 oz godfather slabs , 4 inch Co-Co-Mo's to 4 inch NANNER sassy shad from www.moestackleshop.com in 2ft water to 29ft ... Winds where up and down some days really strong .water temps were 56-62 degrees .. I have some openings so give me a call ... 


















As you can tell by my boat ... It's been a slaughter fest :) 


Also had a couple of trips with catch and release ... All white bass and I don't have some of the individual pics .. Thank you to all my guest and fellow TFF guest also swim baits have been retrieved at a medium speed and slabs slowly raised ...

It was rough windy conditions and the trolling motor batteries went poop on us, but he got us some HUGE fish and great memories!!

The nanner sassy shad was killer on those big hybrids!!


BTW we threw back more than we kept. My dad only wanted a few fillets (I hope that 8,9 lb bag of fillets was enough LOL)

Had first time guest Ted , Jonathan and Kevin for an afternoon trip. Fished from 2:00 pm till 8:00 pm . Let's say from the 2-5 o'clock hours where a little slow . When I started I tried a little middle April pattern and guess what !!!! It's not the middle of April yet but I thought with the warm temps might be a little early . Should have never left the area where I have been catching fish for a month finally found a couple hybrids and lost a couple .. Late bite was very good .. 3 inch Co-Co MO'S where our ticket today .. Did catch a few on 4 inch NANNER sassy ... Don't forget about www.moestackleshop.com GARAGE SALE THIS WEEKEND !!!! I will be there when I can to B.S. fish where caught 2-12 ft water and temps where 69-71 degrees with 0 wind to start and a good 15 as the day went ... Your crew looks like they had a great time!!! I am thinking about getting out Sunday afternoon but I just heard the wind is suppose to be rally high. Hopefully the weather man is wrong.

We kept 7 hybrids and 29 sandies, and released countless under size hybrids and sandies. We have to give credit to JV. He tried hard to put us in the midst of feeding zone. Hybrids are big and fat. Many sandbass are 14-15 inches. At our last spot they kept biting until dark. That was a good 30-45 minute period of non-stop actions bringing our trip to a nice finale.

The wind speed will be 13 mph Sunday afternoon. Saturday is better and the pattern should be the same as 3/29.

Had a very good 4 days of fishing and I don't think my guest would say any different Had 3 morning trips and 1 afternoon. The afternoon trip started out waiting at the ramp for the storms to stop and we got a little late start and since I did not have to clean fish we fished till dark. My pattern has been the same for all the trips , hybrids stripping drag and white bass knocking the fire out of slabs The new Peekwi Chieftain slab from www.moestackleshop.com is an awesome bait and you cant go wrong with the SD sassy Shad and Nanner I have caught fish in a steady range of 16-29 ft all 4 days and they are feeding hard and very few fish have not spawned that I have cleaned ... doesn't matter wind direction, Rain, gates open ...Nothing better than a young kid with a spinning rod screaming that he got one as a 5 lb hybrid is stripping line... the only thing close is the adults that is screaming because he has a hybrid stripping line I have been fishing Hubbard for 15 yrs and guiding 8 and I hear people say things are early or late every year.. well according to my logs I keep.. that is true or false.. some of it early, none has been late and alot right on time Nothing makes a guide or a person feel good when they say " lets try this area, fish should be here " and first cast , they have one !!!! 2 of my trips where with repeats that I consider friends and very enjoyable like today that a man that works so hard spends time fishing with his dad like they did when he was a young boy, and tell you.." John, thank you.. I don't get to fish with dad much anymore and this was awesome". I know I get paid to guide.. but boys and girls .. that's why I guide.. I enjoy my job very much, it is a passion not just a business , not just to make a boat payment or support a habit.. or like Saturday when a young 9 yr old loves to fish.. and as you show him how to take off a fish or tie a lure he is listing to every word, soaking it in .. and very next fish I tell him let me take it off.. and he says, Mr. Varner .. I would like to try.. and he does I would like to thank all my guest, repeats and new for MY enjoyable business and the experiences that I get to enjoy and even though they think they are getting the better of the deal with memories, they do not know .. the memories I get ..

I was on the Friday morning trip and can tell you it was a blast! But we always have a blast when we are with John. Mainly giving eachother [censored]!

On our trip, we had me, my dad, a client/friend, and my nine year old son. I fish with my dad a lot. Since his health is not great I appreciate everytime we go out My son has been going fishing with me since he was about five. Our trips usually consist of fishing for an hour tops and then he wants to swim. On this day, he fished the entire trip and caught more fish than he ever has before. My son doesn't talk too much around strangers but when he got in the truck he raved about what a great time he had and how it was the best fishing trip he'd ever been on. He said he is now my new fishing partner. With that said, we spent half of the day Sunday searching for him a new spinning rod since that is what John let him use.

Had first time guest Melvin, Jerry and Darren for a little morning trip Fish have been right where I have been catching them for 2 weeks Started out throwing 4in Sassy Nanners but had to quickly down size to the 3 in CO-CO -MOE's ... they wanted the smaller bait today for some reason Nothing like Hybrids stripping line on a spinning reel !!!! If I can only get my guest to realize that lure head will not fit through that little eye on the rod we could be ok.. I bet we have lost 20 hybrids because of this problem the last week or so Catching was great but soon the Friday 13th jinx set in.. I threw my $300.00 dollar Doybin and Revo combo over the side of the boat I guess the lure wrapped around the eye and I threw it.. and looked as it hit the water and sank like a rock !!!! grabbed another rod with a 2 oz fiesta but it was gone, tried for a few minutes but no luck... It just came out of my hands.. dont know why .. but we did manage more fish after that Then when I got back to CHANDLERS MARINA I went to set up my stuff, power was locked... It took me forever to hunt down the manager , THE NEW ONES, and he informed me that I could NOT clean my fish at his marina anymore, even though I pay an annual launch fee.. I talked him into letting me one more time so I could clean my guest fish.. apparently they DONT LIKE FISHERMAN anymore with the new owners and only $500,000.00 dollar boats and sail boats.. so , luckily my annual pass expire next month and will take my business to Harbor Bay Marina.. I talked to JOE, the manager and he WELCOMES fisherman there.. So if anybody need to launch go there ok, over my rant.. all fish caught on Lures from www.moestackleshop.com in various depths of water.. After that I meet the guys at Harbor Bay, Frank,Superduck, Terry and Ray..VIP , Fillet Maker, Seapro , Bombbay , Rat Trap, Tall Bald Guy and others and ate a little fish.. thanks guys for the welcome and good seeing everybody....

That sucks about Chandlers. I mentioned to the new owner when I bought my annual pass earlier this year about building a fish cleaning station, he turned his nose up about it. This may be my last year there.

Fishing was pretty good today I thought but, when we got back to Chandler' and saw what Varner brought in we had a slow day. NICE FISH !!!

I hate to hear that John, I really like chandlers set up and ramp. Harbor bay ramp is so dang steep! I've put in many time over there so no biggie. My trailor actually rubs the concrete cause such a steep drop. Doesn't bother me, but freaks anyone else out standing around.

Yeah, Proline 19 filled me in on the Chandler details at work the other day. After John's Sand Bass tournament this year, no more tournaments out of Chandler's, none, zip, nada, zero. Claims tournaments take up all the clients parking spaces. Maybe JP could buy the new owner out - JP's rich!

Nice fish and report JV... It looked like you had some things on your mind yesterday and now I see why. I hate losing those rod/reels. I've actually put those floaters on mine after losing two combos last year. I've been at Harbor Bay 20+ years. I've spoken to the manager in the past about hosting some tournaments and as far as I've heard they run weekly bass tourneys out of there. So hopefully yours can move there next year. Joe is a great guy and just moved to working inside at Harbor Bay. I sent some plates of food over to the office people yesterday. Terry went in his outfit along with my wife. I'm sure that was a funny site!

Had repeat guest Brad and his 2 sons Wyatt and Wayne Brad text me Saturday and wanted to know if I could get him in for that afternoon . I told him I already cancelled my Saturday trip cause of winds and my Sunday morning because of winds and storms they were forecasting .. He said he would be on standby   we checked the weather and it looked good for an afternoon ... Started out at a spot I have been doing good on fish for a couple weeks
And they where there we started out with keeping the kids occupied for a while and then we hooked onto a hybrid with the spinning rod .. After we got that fish in Brad said " that's it " and put his 6 weight fly rod to work !!! Hooked up to a very nice fish and as he said after he broke it off that it was operator error the kids , ages 4 and 6 were kept busy by me with the spinning rod with white bass and Brad continued with the fly rod ... He hooked another , and man that rod was screaming !!!!! And we got that one in Brad caught some more hybrids and we whacked whites pretty steady .. The kids Acually had enough and wanted to watch a movie .. Lol.. So we set them up while Brad fly fished .. Later on Brad seen a good friend with his family .. The kids went with them
On their boat as Brad's friend joined us for the last hour of day light .. Ended up finding some
Small fish but the last hour was nothing like the first 3 , kinda surprised me that the last hour didn't produce good fish ... All fish caught on lures from www.moestackleshop.com Co-Co Moe's 3 inch baits except for Brad's flies ... Water was 70 degrees .. I have some dates open so give me a shout :) They only kept a few to eat and released the rest

Outstanding young man! Luv it! Fished my dad on that same spot the day before, same results! We did have to take cover from a trolling pontoon boat and an idiot guide who felt the need to crank up his big motor to move 50ft every 10 mins(yes, he did have a trolling motor but it never got wet)....

Another year , another Matt's fishing weekend.. I have been privileged now for 8 yrs with this event.. Billy Seaman is usually the head dog but he had prior engagements ... This was the biggest one so far.. 25 people , 4 guides and 2 follow boats Metroplex Guide service , Doug's Guide Service and Three Sea's Guide service helped me out this year we told the guys to be ready at 6:45 am -7:00 am but , well, never mind.. when we left we kinda split up into groups and I headed for a spot that I have caught fish the last 4 yrs.. and they where there.. blowing on top and the guys started reeling them in considering we dont guide on the lake and I havent fished it since last year we did fairly well over 400 fish kept and I dont know how many caught I would like to thank the guys that helped out and I would also like to thank Matt he is one of the greatest guys and his bunch is a hoot.. afte cleaning all those fish they had us hamburgers, hot dogs and the fixings ready please enjoy the slide I put together

I did get to catch one hybrid on top water well worth the wait Steve I love the logo design and video stuff.. it is a passion of mine and relaxes me

What can I say - it was a perfect day of fishing. The guides were awesome. I cannot say enough good things about their ability to catch fish and their great attitudes. Huge thanks go out to JV for orchestrating everything, but Greg, Paul and Doug deserve credit for stuffing the boxes.

I did not see or hear much on the water that would have offended anyone. I think that we are getting old.

Cannot wait until next year!!

That was an awesome trip! There were several times where someone would ask what time it was and it felt like it should've been a couple of hours later. We were catching that many fish. We always have great time when we fish with John.

Had  repeat guest Mike and his daughter for a morning trip on Lake Ray Hubbard. Saturday was her birthday so he wanted to get her out to catch some fish! Started out at 6:45 AM and finished our trip a little after 11 o'clock, the winds got really high later in  the morning and it made it very difficult to fish a lot of areas. The topwater bite was very good early and we caught some nice huge white bass and one legal hybrid , very exciting to watch a hybrid blow up on a 4 inch chug bug being popped across the water. I am getting very sick of these High winds, as I know everybody else is also. I have some openings in May so give me a call or email me. All fish caught on www.Moestackleshop.com lures .. The top waters where some that he had at one time . The new Peekwi Chieftain is a great slab ... All Co-Co Moe's had the puma jig heads ... They are perfect for them water temp was 71-73 degrees and winds were south 15-25 mph ....

Hubbard can be hard to hide from the wind, especialy from the South. Good job JV, looks like happy customers. Top water IS my favorite way to fish no matter what the size.

Had first time guest guest Kevin and his pal Dexter for a morning trip on Hubbard ... Just a little info on Dexter ... He is a very light 125 pound lab. He is never been in a boat before but he loves the water and he loves to chase ducks! Well at the marina guess what was there you got it ,ducks. So we had a few minutes to get him in the boat that was quite fun but he settled in just nicely. At our first stop we were throwing Co Ho's and sassy shad, well a couple of people put out those noodle tubes that were catfish floats. Well if you know about training labs, they use long white tubes to throw in the water! You guessed it, Dexter could not stand it any longer plunged into the water. That was pretty cool except for the fact of trying to get 125 pound dog back in the boat!! Another lesson learned of the morning was when fish start schooling, Dexter thinks it's time to fetch them from the water, so once again there he goes in the water! This really hindered Kevin's fishing just a little bit, Dexter also thinks it's time to fetch 4 inch top water lures on the water. We finally got him settled in and had to tie him in the boat with his collar so he would not jump in the water anymore. We had Kevin's limit of white bass before 8 AM, he hooked onto four hybrids broke two lost one and boated one, all while Dexter was going crazy about all the fish! When that died down we checked a few more spots ,went to slab up some fish didn't really find too much .later on we just a few more areas with 4 inch sassy shads hooked on a few more hybrids and Kevin lost a few more hybrids but we did manage to get them three total hybrids in the boat for the day. So just a reminder boys and girls, if you have a four-legged friend take them fishing makes for quite an exciting day. Also remember not only am I kid friendly ,supply DVDs for them to watch when they get bored of catching too many fish , I am also pet friendly and we can train them in the boat also all kids fish free with a paying adult as do the four-legged friends, the only thing about the four-legged friends is by law they cannot keep there limit , I am sorry but that is the law all fish caught with lures from www.moestackleshop.com , 4 in top waters , 3 in Co Co Mo's with Puma jig heads and 4 in SD Sassy Shads ... Water was 73.3 degrees with a South West wind 10-15 mph . I have some open dates in May so give me a call or a PM I am running a May special just asked for details.






Afterwards , went by a friends house for some Grubb :)

Terry called this morning abt hooking up with him and Lady's man tomorrow. But I spent the last 1.5 hrs icing my ankle due to a bad sprain playing basket ball with son and his friends out on the park, so tomorrow is iffy now. Cant put weight on my left side yet

I am praying for a miraculous recovery manana on the ankle...

Todd that is a great excuse to just sit in the back of the boat and catch fish. LOL

Add repeat guest Ted and the gang for a e afternoon trip on Lake Ray Hubbard. We had a total of five people which I usually don't do ,one of them was really skinny and he was a kid we started out at 3:30 and fish till dark since I didn't have to clean their fish. Ted and them always like to take there fish whole that way they can bake them or  grill Them and other things. At first it was a little tough trying to find some fish, I moved around a few different spots picked up a few here and there. I went to an area that usually holds fish a little later in the year but with the water temperature being up I figured I'd give it a try. I have to say that earlier in the year I bought the hummingbird side imaging graph. Is it very cool graph and I am trying to get use to the side image of part, but I still like to use my 2-D down scan on the regular graph model. It has the same color as Lowrance and for some reason I guess I'm just used to it. I marked white bass Laying right on the bottom ,I mean it was just barely a darker line with a few little bumps . Threw out the marker buoy drop trolling motor and as soon as we started slapping the screen just lit up. Now it gets very difficult when you have five people in the boat catching fish ,you're taken fish off and trying to hold steady, I do believe it's about time for an Ipilot ,maybe we stayed in that same area the rest of late evening and just whacked huge white bass, it was a great time especially with a 15-year-old in the boat and he has  never caught that many fish. I decided before got too late to go try some areas for hybrids and unfortunately I had a little bit of wiring problem in my boat, we were stranded for a little bit and thank goodness Paul , Bombay, was still in his slip after cleaning fish and he came out to assist. Thank you very much Paul. Well I fixed the wire problem right when he got there  and got the boat started .Sorry there're no pictures it was way too dark and it was already really really late. We came very close to their five fish limit.All fish were caught on www.moestackleshop.com, mostly all slabs ,the SSS in 1 oz in water 24 to 28 feet deep. The winds were south at about 15 mph and the water temperature was 74°. thank you Ted and the group you guys were a blast and we had lots of fun.

Had repeat guest Leonard, Eric and Frank Fred for an afternoon trip on Lake Ray Hubbard. Eric was supposed to be there at 3:30 PM and didn't show up till 4 PM. But that was okay ,we hit a few spots early where fish have been and guess what, wind direction changed, temperature changed, bright blue skies and they weren't there !!!! The way the wind was blowing in a certain direction I decided to try a few different other spots, now once again this is where the Humminbird side Imagen came into play. Yesterday I use the 2-D down scan for the Deepwater ,I'm just not very confident in deep water with the sidescan. Well I have the side scan and I was checking the hump and I marked fish 110 feet to the right corner of the boat then mark the spot and eased over there. Well guess what, the fish were there. We whack some good fish I think we got up about 30 Before they disappeared. I went ahead and pulled up and we went and checked another area that usually holds fish this time year. When we got there I marked fish with the down scan 2-D stuck on the bottom once again. I threw out my marker buoy and we commence the slab  fish and started hammering huge white bass. The way the wind was blowing I was ableb to drift the side of the hump along a ridge for 100 to 200 yards and there was fish just loaded up on it. It was nonstop action for the next maybe two hours. Some of the white bass  were huge and we caught over 200 fish , this'll be very good for the tournament hopefully they will be there in the morning time since these trips I've done is in the afternoon. All fish caught on slabs from www.moestackleshop.com in 23-29 ft water ... NE winds 5-10 mph water temp was 76 degrees .... I have a few openings so give me a call ... 









After I cleaned the fish ... Leonard invited to dinner at Snuffers with him and the gang ... Don't tell anybody ... But I actually drank an adult beverage :)

Since the tourneys is tomorrow this is unofficial report for today.  Please read carefully, fish caught on 12 inch giant torpedo tuna top waters, in 62 foot of water. Also the fish were biting really well on 27 inch umbrella rigs with green squid plastic blades dipped in holographic blue and purple Catchum juice. I am sorry we have no pictures of the 200 pound tuna for today we had to catch a release and we did not have any tags. Water temperature was 14° below zero winds were south north east west at 1 to 14 mph. All fish caught from lures from my new sponsor the big purple squid man, please do not tell super duck, it is a big secret that he does not know yet. Looking forward to seeing everybody tomorrow let's have some fun ,David from shut up and fish deliver the graph today thank you very much.

Had fellow TFF 's  Bill , Gary and KV on a morning trip for Ray Hubbard . We started out early and I took a gamble on a spot that usually holds hybrids this time of year and it DID NOT pay off ....I wasted time and all we showed for it was 1 white bass and less fuel fishing was pretty tough that day .. But. Managed our load of whites but no hybrids .... Ended up trying multiple spots with little results but 1 spot held good fish .. Thanks Bombbay for the call .. All fish caught on 1 oz Peekwi Chieftain from www.moestackleshop.com in 22-29 ft water ... Raised real high with a pop at the top thank you guys it was a pleasure fishing with you :)

Had the Williams family out for morning fishing on Ray Hubbard ... When you don't gamble it pays off fish the flats where fish should be and we pulled up T 6:40 am and had the first fish at 6:43 am they informed me that they didn't want to keep a limit and just keep some big ones ... Well after having 50 big whites in the box by 7:45 am they " Mom" said lets keep our limit so they could have a HUGE fish fry .. By this time I already threw back many keepers when that action died off we went hunting ... Ended up at the spot that has held fish ... Ended up at 10:30 am with 86 whites kept and 25 mph winds so we called it a morning sincere started at 6:30 am .... May 20,2012 

Had the Reed  family for a morning trip on Hubbard ... Started at 6:30 am with a little less action on the flats ... We did manage a couple of small hybrids and a few shorties as well... The huge whites where in there but the schooling action was sporadic . We moved around to a few places and ended up sitting in a hole and fish would moved through ... The Reed's have fished with me for about 4 yrs and it is fun when you get to see kids grow I was lucky enough for that day to not have to keep fish .. And the kids where more interested into taking fish off their selves it was hoot .. At one time they wanted  too work the trolling motor and take their fish off ... Very calm day and I am surprised the fishing was as good as it was ... All fish caught 1oz  Chieftain , SSS and 3" Co--Co Moe's with puma jig heads from www.moestackleshop.com ....

Had 2 morning trips 6-1 and 6-2-2012 . 

Had guest Richard and his 2 grand kids Friday morning for some fun on Ray Hubbard .. Started out early at 6:30 am and fished hard till 12:00 pm . That front , rain and full moon slowed down the fishing for sure. Not much going on early either ... By 10:45 am had maybe 10 whites in the box with a few smaller ones released. I was going to check a spot and a crane caught my eye with his neck stretched and the very weird way they land in the water that saved the day .. Had 4 inch gizzards blowing out of the water ... Caught 32 whites and 2 hybrids there with that ninth inning home run ... Water was 77 degrees , winds were North 10-16 mph ... All fish caught on puma jig heads , 3 in CO CO MOE's , 1'oz SSS SLABS and the hybrids on the 2oz fiesta from www.moestackleshop.com in 3-28 ft water . 




Saturday 6-2-12  

Had guest crappieking95 and his mother on the boat for a morning trip on Hubbard . Started early again and it really didn't pay off I checked multiple spots early and finally just happened upon some shad jumping out of the water at that point with boats about 100 yards from me , I showed Xavier the fine art of mastering the turn your boats sideways , with your back to the boats and very discreetly put fish in the boat with everybody seeing you methods we whacked some big whites before that played out .. And only had 1 boat come near us it's was also nice having a young man that could fish so well in the boat also . Finally later that morning ended up finding a small school that would move across the screen and we picked up some descent fish ... As we were headed in Paul called and he was on some fish so we went over there and joined the fun. Winds were south 10 mph water was 75-78 degrees .. All fish caught on puma jig heads with 3 inch CO CO MOE's and 1 oz SSS SLABS from www.moestackleshop.com  in 12-26 ft water. It's was a pleasure having Xavier and his mom on the boat I passed on some good tips and we went over the side imagine cause I am sure before long , he will have his own boat I love teaching just enthusiastic young people the fun of fishing .. 


This weekend I burned a lot gas... I would find a big school of fish and caught 3 and they would be gone.. They were all over the place .. No real pattern , just checking different depths and locations . By what I have seen on the TFF looks like the afternoons are better right now ... Thanks guys

6-7-12

Had first time guest Tim on an afternoon trip on Hubbard . We checked a couple of spots that have been producing and Tim also wanted to learn the lake a bit . Checked an area that haven't been holding fish , but should and had a few huge marks !!!! Drooped a 2 oz fiesta down and hooked onto a hybrid ... With a few huge whites mixed in .... Hooked onto a big hybrid ... But it got off headed to another area and seen some fellow TFF guys and I set up a drift on one of my favorite areas and whacked some big whites and hybrids mixed in ... Great afternoon on the water !!! About 6:30 pm Tim said he was done ... I looked at him and said " these hybrids are here " said he was good and was ready ... He asked if he could stop at his dock and grab a cold adult beverage while I cleaned fish ... Asked if I wanted one and I said " if they are really cols I will take one while I clean " it was super cold :) 





Wanted to try out the new lures from www.moestackleshop.com but ended up just using slabs :) 






6-8-12  morning 

Had a trip that I helped Paul " metroplex guide service" with , had 11 people in the group . Paul did an outstanding job of organizing this for those folks . People don't realize that these group trips can be chaotic and Paul handled it very well and professional ... Fishing was a little tougher that day ... Thought we would find some good schooling action but found very little .... Found fish on deep water humps .. Sassy Man "Doug" also helped Paul with this trip .. We caught a lot of fish and they were very happy thanks Paul .... 



6-8-12 Afternoon 

Had repeat guest Darrell  and his sons ... Checked a few spots with sporadic fish caught and went to the same deep water hump I did Thursday afternoon ... I never left that spot the fish were thick and easy for the boys to catch .. We even hooked into a couple of hybrids for the boys ...  I looked in my binoculars and I could see a far away boat show ... Man there was a lot sitting on top of each other ... I stayed away from that , stayed in our spot its summer time and the boats are out ... Time for crowds , trolling , running motor through fish and a little rudeness .. And that is just the fisherman mixed in with the ski boats and jets fleas it is summer once again on a very crowded lake everybody be careful ... 










All fish caught on 1 oz Peekwi Chieftain and 2 oz fiestas in 24-34 ft water ... Also used the new  RH McQueen Tail Spinner with some schooling fish and it was a great lure ... If you see me out say hi ... Be careful and cool headed with the summer time lake fishing ... No reason to stress ...

I would also like to give people a hint ... Before half the trip was over with the kids ... I made them put up those spinning reels and use bait casters ... When you just have to drop the lure down ... Use bait casters ... You just can not work the lures the same way with spinning rods for the summer bite ... Reel up 4-7 cranks real fast and hit the button and let it fall ...

This fishing report is for the last few trips i have done and today. The fishing has remained pretty good, good school early in the morning on the flats at Robertson Park and the tip of the jetty. Later on the fish moved to the humps and levees using your electronics  to find them . Also in the middle of the day between 11 and 1 pm look for schools of fish out in deep  water. When I find these fish out in the Deeper water I have been dropping the big flutter spoons from www.moestackleshop.com. Schooling action the 4 inch sassy shad and the PURPLE BUZZ BAIT has worked great !!!! My normal slab of choice is the 1 oz peewi and the 2 oz fiesta . My afternoons have been better for the hybrids and huge whites in deep water ... Have been dropping the slab or spoon down , raise real high and keep it tight ... Then 6 cranks real fast and let her drop the boat traffic is getting a little crowded and it's gonna get worst . Also remember , when you find a school of fish on top or humps more boats , the more noise , the less fish caught and they will leave in a hurry ... I have noticed a few new guys for Hubbard .. Just some pointers .. When fishing the flats , and you are in 5-12 ft water .. Do not drive around looking for schooling fish .. Stop in deeper water drop your trolling motor and look with your eyes ... The big motor in shallow water does not help the fishing . Also if you do see fish schooling try to remain calm and don't hole shot to them ... Just ease slowly and stop at a good distance and drop your trolling motor ... Just trying to give a little friendly advise so the fishing is good for everybody ... If you see me out catching fish , feel free to stop by .. But please don't motor right up to my boat while I have guest catching fish and ask if I am John Varner drop your trolling motor and catch some fish and if you don't know my boat , I have the big pontoon with red canopy without a trolling motor on it had a group trip that metroplex guide service helped me with and we had 6 kids they had a ball ... So the pic I have is the same of the fish we caught but my kids had to go pee really bad so that was the only pic I got if you need anything give me a shout or pm .. I have dates available ... Believe it or not .. July summer hot fishing can be very good Haven't kept many fish lately so no deck shots :) 

Today with our own David Double D with a small kitty ,some nice hybrids caught on PURPLR BUZZBAIT and some nice whites ...

Great advice and great report JV. Summer can be hot for sure both literally and figuratively with the fishing. But I learned from a great fisherman, Todd. Fish early and be in by noon! Last year with Todd was my first time to watch the sun rise and be out fishing. Love that pontoon quote! Too funny...

What's up TFF it has been a hot one lately and Lake Ray Hubbard hasn't been bad    I can say this ... There are tons of fish schooling if the boat traffic stays low but they have been playing " guess where we are today " game lately ,  if do find them use a small tail spinner type bait for your best results , they have been chasing small shad fry again and the smaller baits have been working better for me . I have also been using 3/4 oz slabs as well when I use my electronics to find them . Haven't used the trolling motor as much when slabbing ... Been setting up side ways and drifting when there is wind .. What this does is allow the lure of a more horizontal raise then a straight up and down vertical. If you do not mind the wrist action , throw the slab out and burn it a few cranks and drop . I have been on a " every other day" hybrid pattern as well later in the morning .. Not there every time but it's worth looking .. The hybrids I have caught have been very nice and healthy .. It's nice to have guest that understand the stocking issues so we have released some of them as well if you fish during the week late afternoon I found huge schools of whites an hour before dark schooling on the flats .. Had a few catch and release trips and the larger white bass are a little harder to come across .. If you want to fill the freezer with them then you will more than Likely have to keep quite a few 10.5 - 12 inch fish especially if you have three people be careful because the small hybrids are in abundance with the schooling whites , please know the difference and don't forget ... Most important ... This is Lake Ray Hubbard ... It's a metropolitan lake with lots of people during the summer .. Don't let the boat games get to you and have fun ... No matter how many years I have been fishing Hubbard ... There is always boats that full throttle to schools of fish as well as pontoon boats without out trolling motors seen a lot of TFF members out and good Talking with everybody ... Drink plenty of water and use sunscreen .  It's been a hot one out :)

Thanks for the report JV. Having fished with JV on a couple of occassions I can honestly say he is one of the best Fishing Guides you can spend a day fishing with. I have had the opportunity to fish with some quality Guides in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi and Costa Rica and I can not think of one I would reccommend over JV. Since I Personally am not much of an angler I appreciate people like JV working on the water to give us "less experianced types" an opportunity to put a "bunch" of fish in the Boat. If you are interested in catching a bunch of fish, and learning how to catch on your own with a really nice guy contact JV !!

Fished 3 days this weekend ... 

Had first time guest Parker and his 2 daughters ( thank you RoughHuff) ... The group has never fished really , except a few ponds we started them out with top water action and then some stabbing ... Kids did great :) 

Saturday we had Ray " the ladies man" birthday get together .... Ruben and Plano Keith joined me ... Started out with Great top water action but later that morning my batteries had a loose connection and didn't charge .. We down rigged up some hybrids later that morning :) 

Sunday had first time guest Toby ,his son and father inlaw ... The schooling action didn't last long but caught some quality fish ... We had to go in a little early because of the heat but they had a great time ... They kept a few fish for a fish fry and all other trips where catch and release ....  

All fish caught on Steve McQueen spinners , 1 oz Peekwi Chieftain and 4 inch sassy shad with 1 oz heads from www.moestackleshop.com ... In 12-24 ft water ... 

Early morning schooling on flats and coves .... Later move to windward points and the back side of ridges and humps for fish laying on bottom ... I have been down rigging for the hybrids , baits around 19-20 ft ... The best slab bite for me has been to toss it out and lift it back, almost a horizontal presentation instead of straight vertical,... Sometime the toss out and burn back as done well also ... The fish are not in huge schools when swabbing ... It's almost like sniper fishing ... Pick them off methodically i have dates open so give me a call  

And please remember ... In the mornings we have caught a lot of small hybrids... Please know the difference

Had repeat guest Greg and Blake and they also brought there wives for a little fishing Greg has been fishing with me for years and he is not the early type they did manage to get there by 7:00 am and we headed out . Saturday was one of the prettiest mornings in a while ... It was nice and cool , wind and very pleasant for August . Started out at the flats and the fish did not show , moved to another area and there they were we had them to ourselves for a little bit and as the fish started shallow they moved deeper but the little lying birds showed us they were there when that stopped we went looking and did manage some slab fish on a few spots .... Electronics helped as they where hugging the bottom pretty well.. Greg and the gang had some thing to do and he never fishes long , headed in at 10:15 am ... His choice ... A bunch of small hybrids mixed in again so be careful ... All fish were released  



8-12-12 
Had repeat guest Brad " flyboy" and his dad Gary ... You know .... You have a front comes thru , winds change and the fishing is fine ... You have clouds move in , normal south wind and it changed everything up fishing was tougher today but we did manage to hook Brad up with some fish on his fly rod ... We used a lot of gas and fished a lot of spots .... Later on in the morning I did find the mother load of 8 inch white bass , so thick you slab couldn't make it to the bottom ... Not a horrible day considering we targeted fish that could be caught with a fly rod ... All fish released  



I am ready for fall and some hybrids ... The white bass need to grow also water temp was a chilly 85 degrees and winds were north one day and south the next ... Caught fish in 2-21 ft water ... www.moestackleshop.com was the lures we used ... SSS and 3/4 godfather .... Flies used were clouser chart/white ... Seen a lot today dragging hell pets ... And the wind was pretty strong at times ....

Had first time guest Byron and his dad Steven ( from Pittsburg) on a half day trip started out with schooling action and had if they kept fish easy 50 before 8:30 am ... It was cloudy and nice ...with multiple 15-16 in hybrids but no big ones ... Every body played nice water was 82 degrees and fish caught with SSS slabs and fast Ally's from www.moestackleshop.com in 5-16 ft water ... Sorry for the late report have been busy :)

Saturday was fun fishing day started out with some top water and high winds !!!! Today was a little different ... With the winds people couldn't stand to see white bass school without cranking there big motor in 5 ft of water and spooking everything down ... It was summer combat fishing but the only difference was there wasn't that many boats ... But at least 5 kept doing it .. I had a guy motor in front of me , while I was on my trolling motor with schooling fish and drop his anchor we left that mess and went south for a little calmer water ... Found fish scattered on a point in 14 ft water .... We ended early to go to bass pro and then eat an early lunch at Primo's the ride back from the restaurant was pretty exciting with the waves :) 



Seen a few TFF guys ... Good seeing everybody :) 

JV...give me a clue at to where these "flats" you mentioned... South-south East side of lake? Clues please.

Been a while and I apologize ... I really don't care to fish that much in September because the fishing kinda sucks that time of year started out early checking some spots for a fall pattern ... I do this every year ... And every year they are not there yet , but will be soon eased on down the lake and found a huge school of fish and we were the only boat ... Made a couple calls real quick and then started throwing 4 inch sassy shads in the huge splashes , I tell you what ... If you can't get excited with that then I don't know what else to do. We were using spinning rods and that was a hoot ... Dennis hooked the first fish and the line stared screaming. ... That's no white bass there we ended up with multiples legal hybrids ... And multiple short hybrids .... White bass where mixed in as we'll ... When the splashes stopped we worked slabs on the bottom and picked up some more fish ... Then the sun came out and it stopped we checked a few more spots and marked fish that could have been caught with the hellpet , but since we weren't worried about keeping fish we didn't want to drag only fished for a couple hours and am sure sometime today those fish went nuts .... All fish caught on 4" sassy shad with 3/4 oz heads , SSS slabs and the Steve McQueen from www.moestackleshop.com .... Water was 74 degrees and a little windy ...it will be really good ... Won't be long after a couple of cold fronts ....

Good report JV... JV and I spoke on Thursday. I ran out with my neighbor Mark for a few hours Thursday afternoon. Was pre-frontal conditions and the fishing was crazy good. We caught and released a ton of fish from 4-7:30. Birds and schooling fish for two straight hours. It just doesn't get any better than that. I'm ready for the Fall frenzy....

Hello fellow TFF boys and girls. Now that summer is ending.. 100 degree days are behind us it is getting closer to the great time of year that fishing will be outstanding. The boat traffic has already pretty much went away and time to put on the hoodies and jackets. This is one of my favorite times of year….leaving the dock… crisp cool air and sassy shads hanging from rods . I have been doing some scouting trips along with guide trips… the fishing has been fair to ok. Some days are better than other and the wind has played a big part in that. I have found fish in as little as 1ft already and it will only get better. There are days when birds work and when you couldn’t find one to eat if you were staving. This time of year the fish move really fast in the mornings to midday and group up longer in the afternoons. Do not be scared to look shallow early at daylight and late at dusk.. the fish are there and right on schedule.

When you mark small bumps on your graph and the fish seem a little spread out, down size to a smaller slab like the
Mini Fiesta or the SSS and just lift high real slow.. and bump the bottom.. a lot of times on the way down your line just goes slack. It’s a fish and reel up setting the hook. When I have marked good schools on the graph ,Size of the slab doesn’t seem as important but not to big. Another good technique that has been working is tossing your slab out , hit bottom and just bounce back slowly. That seems to be more affective on long points and flats.

When looking shallow I am not looking for schooling fish , now.. that does help but it does not mean fish are not there. I throw soft plastic swim baits exclusively for the shallow roaming monsters. I prefer a
Moe’s ¾ oz sassy Jig Heads with the 4 in Naanaa …just remember when the lure hits the water start reeling and hook sets are free .. I usually have people that do not fish a lot and that set up would be way to heavy for them and I would loss every jig head and sassy shad I have .. so , the best alternative is the Puma Jig Head with a Clear Naanaa CocaMoe Minnow …its is a lighter set up and people that do not have a lot of experience with shallow water fishing do not seem to snag up as much.And dont forget if you find birds working deep in the afternoon.. throw that sassy .. let it sink and reel up..

A good observation for today.. I found birds working and we were throwing our soft plastics and seeing a lot more fish than we were catching.. I notice the small shad that where jumping.. I grab 3 RH McQueens in chartreuse and we started hitting the fish very well. Pay attention to small details like that and you will be more successful in fishing . Remember that in Late October and thru November wind dictates a lot of the pattern , as this front comes thru this weekend and cooler weather sets in the fishing only get better. I would suggest if you have to get your fishing itch , try a Sunday afternoon. football is on and NOBODY is on the water . as the moon gets to full there will be good schooling action midmorning and afternoons and as it goes to the backside the morning fishing will improve greatly. The weird thing about late October and early November is I have caught hybrids as shallow as 1 ft and caught them down rigging in 28 ft .. so just try a few things .. enjoy the cool temps , less boat traffic and remember when you had sweat running down your back how good we have it … if you see me on the water.. come by and say hi, just turn the big motor off and join the fun ..

Mike Oser ( MOE'S) has everything you need.. and the products are used by fishing guides around the area and some even featured on Texas Fishing and Outdoor show on Saturdays and Sundays with Brian Hughes. When you have people like Matt Cartwright , Joe Read, Tony Parker , Jd Lyle, Chuck Rollins, Chris Carey and have had products on Fox Southwest Outdoor report with Barry Stokes you know they have to be GREAT lures ...Better fishing less money !!!!

Had the privilege to have Terry ( blue tuna) and Frank ( fishboy Frank ) on my boat this afternoon I noticed the other evening that we had a good full moon and figured the mid day and late afternoon bite would be good ... Well , it was better than good it was great started out in deep water and called up a few fish , missed more than we caught found fish in a few spots but just not feeding .. We would get pecked and pick up one but the screen looked better than the catching ... I kept my eye out in a few areas I like this time of the year and what did i see .... Chaos , complete chaos he hauled [censored] over there and huge explosions I started throwing 4 inch Nanner sassy shad and HOOKED UP !!!!! The other guys quickly took off the slabs and tied on plastics it is late fall early winter friends ... Tie on the plastics !!!! When you would see the explosions as soon as the sassy shad hit the water I would start reeling fairly fast and BAM !!! If all I seen was birds then I would throw and let it sink to the bottom and do a medium retrieve .... That was the ticket for almost 2 hours ... 1 whites bass caught in that group and nothing but hybrids ... Some you would have to measure , some that needed the net and a whole bunch keepers . If you fish this time of year keep your binoculars handy and if you find them deep or shallow , chunk and wind a couple fish caught on godfather slabs in the 1.5 oz and mostly all where caught with 3/4 oz jig heads and 4 inch Nanner sassy shad from www.moestackleshop.com in 21-33 ft water ... Winds were 15-20 S and water temps were 57 degrees .... Terry and Frank , thank you guys for all that you do for the RHSA and everybody you guys help ... Good people right there

JV- No thank you! It's no secret I put in a lot of hours at work. When you called I didn't care if I had to tell people was going to get my appendix out was going fishing. Man tonight was insane. Finally birds working for real and not just chasing bait... But of all of my time on Hubbard have never seen this many birds working. It had to be a thousand birds. I even hooked one bird but he got free. When we first pulled up to the hot spot JV looked to see if there were any splashes. I mentioned to Terry that has to be fish pushing that bait up. I couldn't wait and threw a slab at them! Bam a hybrid. Two seconds later like JV said splashes erupted everywhere. There are a ton of birds on Hubbard right now that are just lounging. JV saw these birds through his binoculars and they weren't lounging- they were working! It was a massive school of hybrids and no sandbass. It lasted close to two hours. This was one special day that's for sure. One I won't soon forget. We were blessed. JV has logs and charts like I always mention having kept mine for 25-years. It was the full moon, windy, cloudy, star fishing day on the charts. Everything was lined up for an event like this. We had to have caught over a (100) hybrids. Every single fish thrown back. But persistence by JV paid off. It was on tonight... Thanks JV.

We had the lake to ourselves the fishing was nitpicking for a bit, but persistence won out and it was fish on exploding up under the shad and then going a bit deeper and moving around in circles and back on the attack again. Good size hybrids, all fish were hooked clean and all fish released. With the exception of couple of sand bass it was all hybrids. Just a little slime on JV's boat. Thanks JV you put us on the fish big time. One of those memory makers.

I remember last year at this time when the big schools of hybrid started to school up. Seems like the pattern is in play. Can't wait to hit up Hubbard.

Had the privilege to fish with long time guest Greg and Blake ... Blake has been under the weather and Greg wanted to get him out on the water ... Truly a good friend . They couldn't start till about 8:30 am and we where off the water by 10:45 am cause Blake was ready ... The fishing was pretty steady when we started , and picked up as we where getting ready to leave ... Not much to report ... Find fish on the graph , do your thing and catch fish ... I can tell you this ... Pay attention to your graph ... If the depth is 30 ft and you are marking fish on the graph in 25 ft .. Reel up a couple cranks and hold your slab still every now and then lift sloooowwwwwwly we used the double rig today and caught a few on the top but most on the slab ... I have been using the SSS from www.moestackleshop.com cause of its weight but compact size , if the winds were calm I would use the mini fiesta in 1/2 oz . Plentiful and Huge whitebass today , Only one hybrid and a couple yellow bass .. Water temps have moved up 58-60 degrees , I fished nothing but deep water cause of what time I started .. Winds were nice at start 10 Mph S but picked up to 15-20 , all fish released to fight another day

Nice report, JV! Planning to take my pastor this Friday. Havent fished the home lake since our last RHSA meeting.

JV nice seeing and talking to you out there. Was a shame your client wasn't feeling well. Hope he gets better. JV took the time to text and call. Not just me but several of us. Appreciate the efforts. At the end of the day we all want to put more fish in the lake and we want to catch more fish out of the lake! I've said it many times before we have a great fraternity of fishermen... It's contagious too as you read reports from guys and groups from the other area lakes One day we need to have a big fishing tournament with several lakes involved and split the proceeds. Gene what are you going to do with all that money! Happy Fishing...

Very cool JV... Was that song the "Tawakoni Tap!" When we fished Saturday someone asked about recording the banging sound and playing it into the water. I was kidding and said they have that- it's called the Hydrowave... Matt the Fish Whisperer mentioned he was meeting the Hyrdrowave guys and talking about a tapping recording. They come out with that and I know a bunch of us will buy it. Nice mess of fish and man that lake looked calm....

It was a great afternoon to be on the water, it is hard to believe it is the end of December with this type of weather. We caught fish at several locations. John has that beat down to a science!!

It was great to fish with JV, because of my work schedule and his we do not get to do it often enough.

Had the privilege to fish with repeat guest Top and he brought his buddy Hi started at 1:00 pm and fished till Dark ... Pulled up to the first spot and we had fish on within a matter of minutes ... That died and we check another spot with just a couple of fish ... I told Top the wind has died and let's go threw out the old drift sock and started hammering huge white bass , then a hybrid that HI lost we made the same drift for 2 hours and boated close to 100 white bass and was throwing fish back ... We had very good luck with the SSS slabs from www.moestackleshop.com and topped off with a 3" curly tail grub that absolutely dominated today when you marked fish ... Hit bottom , reel up 4 cranks and hag on ... It was frustrating at first to the 2 newbie dead stickers ... But man , once they got a hang of it they were on fire as the afternoon went on I told them lets go looking ... And boy did we end up with a little surprise at the end HYBRIDS !!!! Swirling the water if you know what I am talking about I don't know how many 16-17 inch ones we let go but we caught some nice keepers they loved the Nanner Sassy shads ....fishing only gets better as the water cools ... We were there today and caught one of everything. Largemouth, yellow bass, catfish, short hybrid and a sandbass. Only there for a couple of hours. Marked fish but couldn't find the big schools. Saw you going under the bridge as we were heading towards Harbor Bay to go home. Blue Sea Hunt. Glad to see you guys killed them.

Man that is awesome!! Hubbard is really looking great right now. It sounds like deadsticking is getting into full swing. John taught my son some new techniques yesterday while I was working the boat. For you guys that want to get in on some great winter fishing call John, school is in session!!

Had first time guest Phillip and his 2 boys out for a day of fishing . When we discussed the trip it was known that it would be brutally cold . The boys are outdoor boys and they were wintered up to the max coveralls , jackets , gloves , pocket warmers .. You get the picture we left the marina , kids wrapped also in a blanket sitting behind us seen some birds worker , set up ... Dad missed a fish and the youngest of the 2 let us know real quick he wasn't happy ... It's too cold ... I don't like this .. Well , the oldest seen how miserable his little brother was and he decided he was miserable also ... I moved away from active fish to go to the red barn cove to see if getting them out of the wind would work ...NOPE ... Ain't happening so , back to the dock with the kids .. We wet a line maybe 5 minutes ... Dad took them home and I waited at the marina for him to return we went back out and fished for a couple hours with 3 legal hybrids and a mess of huge white bass ...so , just a thought ... We we as adults complain how cold it is , it is much worst for the kids ...

Finally got Ruben out on the water for a little fun fishing and boy was it a blast we started catching fish right off the bat and it wasn't long before my rod was doubled over ... I told Ruben , get the net .. This is a big [censored] fish as I w fighting this fish Ruben asked what was wrong , I said its fighting weird ... It feels like a big blue but it is stripping line really fast when we seen the fish , I knew why it felt weird ... It was an 11.4 LB hybrid this is the biggest hybrid I have caught personally in a long time on Hubbard ... I have had guest catch double digit fish but not me in a long while Rubens first words was " that's the biggest hybrid I have seen out of Hubbard " what a beautiful fish and a great fight ... The first thing i noticed was the tail .. that tail is huge !!! We ended with legal hybrids and another huge mess of white bass , that were fat

All fish caught on SSS slabs , Peekwi chieftain slabs 1 oz with Curley tail grubs tied about 2 ft above ... The BIG HYBRID was caught off of a dead assassin with a 1oz screw lock dead head jig head from www.moestackleshop.com in 34-38 ft water .. Winds were North Sat and SE today .. Water was 45-48 degrees ...

If you are watching your graph , pay attention to where the fish are in the water column ... If you turn your sensitivity up just a little bit , you can also see your lure ... Watch the graph and hit bottom , crank up and see your lure exactly where the fish are .. Also, when looking for deep water fish ... Look for some structure close by ... Find it , and move away onto a deep flat ... You will also notice bait balls , those are good ... If you are in a area with lots of bait the fish won't be far ... Also ran into a motley crew on the water today

Had the privilege of having first time guest Bon , Yanny and Eric on Lake Ray Hubbard Today for some afternoon fishing left the marina at 12:30pm and was back at the dock at 5:00 pm with 75 white bass and 1 legal hybrid caught a few smaller hybrids but no big ones today ... It was very windy and rough in the area we were fishing today ... But it all worked out .. We fished one area of the lake and never had to move from that area all fish were deep in 38 ft water and winds were 15-20 mph N-NW .. Water temps were 48 degrees ... With the wind and clouds it was pretty chili .. Lure today were SSS 1oz , god father 1.5 oz and the Peekwi 1 oz from www.moestackleshop.com ... Topped with what ever we could find no movement at all was the ticket ... None , nada ... Find the depth of the fish and hang on it was a great way to bring in the New Year with some wonderful people and great fishing ... If you ant o learn this type of fishing give me a call ... Been doing this for a while thank you guys for a great afternoon

I was one of the 3 and I was very impressed on how well we did considering the wind. Had to use 2 drift socks to stop us from speeding by all the fish. Aslo amazed at how long of a continual drift that we saw nice markings of fish. Can't beat having John showing us how to do it. Thanks again John.

Good job John! Drift socks are fantastic when the winds crazy. We had a drift last week that stretched I would guess at 2 - 3 miles with fish under he boat the whole way. Sure makes it easy and fun!

Had the privilege to have fellow TFF's Larry, Wes, WL and LJ ... We started at 8:00 am and fished till 1:30 pm . Friday was the toughest day I have had in months ... We would mark good schools of fish but couldn't get them to bite . As the morning went on the winds got worse and worse ... I wanted to fish a couple different spots but the wind was 30 mph ... We ended with a long , rough ride back ... Windy and cold and not much to show ... I report the good and bad and it was pretty bad ... Very light bite and most of the times marked good fish but no bites ...

Saturday

Had the privilege to once again have fellow TFF's Ed and Dolly ....and Mike and Danny ... We started out with early phone calls that the rain looked like it was going to hold off ... When I went across the lake going to launch ... I couldn't see the Lake when we ventured out ... We did slowly and carefully I decided to try something a little different ... We pulled up ... Dropped lures and started catching fish when that played out we headed south for the areas that have produced the last month ... But instead I went shallower ... We started our drift because there was not much wind and fished stacked up ... The guys started catching and we heard a couple boats but didn't see anybody until later ... White bass day for sure and only a couple of short hybrids ... That was an adventure making down south .. At one point I was watching my GPS and noticed I was heading right to the shore line not close but just in that direction ... I couldn't imagine not having GPS .. Would have drove around in circles :)as we headed in the rain started ... After I loaded the boat and started driving , the bottom dropped out ... As soon as I got home I headed for east Texas for our annual TFF moderators meeting and wonderful food and a few adult beverages ... No pics for Saturday because of the rain..

All fish caught on Godfather slabs , Peekwi Chieftain Slab and SSS with toppers from www.moestacklesho.com. ... Water was 47-49 degrees ... And our best depth was 26-29 ft water Saturday .... Thank you guys for an adventure and good company

heavy wind is not your friend when water temps under 50. makes slow presentation tough but that's how it goes and why you da man tell it like it is do what you can! now on the gps you know on extreme weather days i have thought maybe i need it but i pull it off and maybe one day

Didn't even know you were out there John! Actually there was a lot more people out than I even knew about. That fog was rediculous!! We made it to the dam rocks and the fog was clear there, but about 10 bass boats lined up and down those rocks, crazy!!!

Had the privilege of having Bon , Kevin , Tu and the silent one on the boat for some afternoon fishing ... We fished 3 spots .. With the first two note productive but the third spot we hung on for 2 hours of non stop fishing and missing hits like crazy fished from 1:00 pm till a little after 5:00 pm ... No birds working and these guys were a hoot I have never heard anybody give each other a hard like these guys , well except maybe when I fish with JD Lyle these were some huge white bass , some keeper hybrids and many short hybrids all fish caught on Peekwi Chieftain Slab 1oz , Godfather slabs 1.5 oz topped with 3 in Curley tail grubs in water 35-39 ft water winds were NW 5-10 mph and water temps were a blustery 46 degrees ... Thank you guys for a fun afternoon ...

Had my good buddy Ruben out today ... We fished a long day because the fishing was fantastic it's hard to just leave fish and call it quits sometimes it started out pretty foggy and just like last week I started shallower than I have been ... We caught a few fish and moved around the lake a little ... Only to finish where we started , LOL ..... Every year in December and January those fish move out deep to follow the huge bait balls of shad and as the winter moved on and it gets closer to them spawning they move up the lake ... It's just like following the migration of birds speaking of birds , they played very nice today as well first good bird action with fish that I have seen in a while ... But don't worry , when they leave the fish are still there . With just Ruben and I , we even had a few rods in the rod holder we had better luck today not suspended , but right off the bottom with a sloowwwww lift ... I switched it up a bit today and pulled out the 3 in fluke with 3/4 oz jig head today and it was a killer .... Ruben stayed with the 1 oz slab today ... It's a feel thing we ended with some nice hybrids Today , a butt load of huge white bass ... We had our limit in the box and was steadily throwing back fish ... When the wind was a little stronger I used my drift socks to keep us at .3 mph but the wind died enough you could just float around remember that you want your lines to stay almost straight down , it you are moving and your lines are at a 45 degree angle that is too fast ... Seen all the guys out today as well we even left fish to go hang in the flotilla with some great folks Terry and Ray great seeing you guys !!!! Fishboy Frank and Bombtastic nice chatting and of chores we always enjoy the great laugh and spirit of Plano Keith all fish caught on lures from www.moestackleshop.com in 21-38 ft water ... Best depths were 24-26 ft winds were all directions and water temps were 46-49 degrees

Todd that's what I was saying in another post! I looked at my spreadsheet and it is a 2-3 weeks early. Now the key will be if they stay and it's a trend. Or whether they head back to the dam. I've never seen so many fish on the graph as there was on Saturday. I just looking at Roy's graph in disbelief. Man we all had a great day. You long for days like that...

Ruben like minds! Several times I said to Roy, "I wonder if we should go help those guys n the aluminum boat?" I was hoping they would come over and ask for some advice. Next time we will make the first move. I felt for them since they weren't catching much. I'm pretty sure later on they got into them out further in the lake. But you are right. We need to help when we can. I usually do so thanks for the reminder.

Had the privilege to have repeat guest Top , Don , Noy and Kay for a morning of fishing on Lake Ray Hubbard . Water temps were 51-52 degrees and best bite was 27ft water ..E winds 20 mph



Sunday 2-10-13
Had the privilege of having first time guest Tien , son Ryan , friend Dylan and Mr Happy for a morning of fishing on Lake Ray Hubbard ... Water temps 52-54 degrees and once again best bite was 27 ft water ...W winds 10-20 mph ..



Lake Ray Hubbard Fishing : the last 3 days on Hubbard have been fantastic Friday was my toughest day because of the 25 mph NorthEast winds ... I couldn't fish where I wanted to to start off with ... Caught a few fish deep and in somewhat less windy areas of the lake ... As soon as the wind laid down I made a ride to where I have been catching steady ... And it paid off ... We went from a few fish the first few hours to non stop the last couple of hours
Saturday and Sunday were carbon copies of each other except wind direction ... On those 2 days combined I used a grand total of 3.5 gallons of fuel Saturday had a little bit of bird action but we were already catching when it started and Sunday not a bird in site .. 27 ft has been my magic ticket on all 3 days ... Sunday I had two 12 yr olds on the boat and another gentleman that has never fished ... I was a little worried if they were going to be able to feel the bite dead sticking ... At first they just sat the there as I seen their rods get tapped ... But after they caught a couple fish they figured out the feel and it was on for them i would watch the graph and when i seen the fish more to the bottom i would instruct them to lower their bait and slow, i mean slowly pick it up what an awesome feeling to watch kids of all ages catch fish on their own these fish are not suspended and are hugging the bottom pretty good , not a lot of bait around either ... You would get some that were raised a little off of bottom ... A lot of the white bass we caught were full of eggs and huge fish all in all a great weekend on Lake Ray Hubbard

All fish caught on 1.5 oz godfather slabs with Curley tailed grub jigs about 1 ft above ... I used the bigger slabs because of the wind ... And unlike the last month they have hit the slabs more than the jigs because of the placement of the fish hugging bottom... Sunday we used the JD Slumpbuster 1 oz because the wind was less... Best depth was 27 ft ... Like I always say ... It is much easier to catch fish the shallower they are ... All lure can be purchased at www.moestackleshop.com ... If you ever have any questions about lure choice or technics feel free to give me a call and I will explain the best I can


Saturday after the trip , I met up with Super duck from Moe's tackle and we helped with a little assortment ... Had a few of the guys join us ...and Ruben was wearing his Tawakoni hat and I was wearing my Ray Hubbard hat and thought that was a cool pic it is great that we have a man that owns a Tackle company that helps us with our cause .. He stores all of our apparel , ships it and donates lures to our tournaments thank you Mike also seen the gang out Saturday and had a chance to chat a little it was good seeing everybody

Glad to see it was a great weekend John! We attended a funeral of some friends whose son was killed in a motorcycle accident here in Rockwall. We helped Saturday and Sunday. Friday 2-22-13

Had the privilege to have Tim , retired Army Vet Joe , Cody and U.S. Marine Steven just back from Afghanistan on the boat Friday morning ... We tried his trip Monday , but with 35 MPH winds we lasted about an hour .. So we re scheduled ... Started at 8:15 am , dropped the drift socks and didn't pick them up until 12:00 pm ... Friday we caught some hogs of white bass out of the 100 we cleaned 70 where 15-16 inches .. Just stupid size ... I had their limit of fish by 10:30 am and we release another 100 or so... Just great white bass action ... When we lifted the rods to call it a day ...Joe told me , and I quote " John , I have been to 2 county fairs in my life and have never seen a freak show like this " ....I about fell over laughing ... It was a great line !!!





Saturday 2-23-13

Had my girl Bo Ann and son come in town and I told them I would take them fishing heard some really good stories about Tawakoni and decided to take a little road trip ... I had her and her son out there last year and we slayed the big hybrids and stripers we started around 1:00 pm and fished till dark .. Fish for us were scattered but we managed a box full and a few big hybrids ... Was lucky enough to talk to Matt Cartwright and he told me a little of the scoop I do have to say , myself as a guide I get a few people that watch and come to where I fish ... I don't really mind at all...but I witnesses something very Wrong Saturday ... I headed to an area and seen Matt , I stayed really far away from him because he is working ... He left that area and within minutes of him leaving , 4 boats cranked up and followed him ... I mean just followed him... You know ...it was is one thing to glass a guide and ease over there ...but to just follow him around is just wrong ... Any way .. Not on a soap box ... We needed the evening with birds working and cat hing fish that's all that matters .. We had a great time on a different lake and don't be jealous of that monster yellow bass we caught

Had the privilege of having Glenn and his son Scott on the boat Sunday afternoon .. Glenn called and said his so. Has never been on a guide trip and would to put his son on a couple of fish I said no problem !!! We started at 1:00 pm and fished till 4:45 pm when they said they were ready to go ... Started out headed south to fish some deep water to check to see if I could find some hybrids .. We found birds working and caught a few fish ..when that died we headed a little further south to try to fish an area where the wind was blowing into but only caught a few white bass ... I headed back to where I have been slaying white bass and it didn't disappoint ... I set up 2 drifts ..only because we ran out of water we hammered the white bass steady ... I had there 50 fish limit before 3:30 pm and we continued the catch and release for the next hour or so when we caught over 100 fish I was running out of water and said let's go look again for some hybrids ... But The winds were way to bad .. They were ready ... And the best part .. They wanted to keep the fish whole .. So I didn't have to clean them !!!







Friday on Hubbard was hog whites ... Sunday had hogs with average mixed in ... Water was 50-52 degrees ... North wind Friday and Strong South/SE winds Sunday ... I have been drifting the same area for 3 weeks with great success on white bass .. A little more slow lift on the slabs instead of dead sticking ... But rods in the rod holder still produce fish .. Windy day I have used the 1.5 oz god father slabs .. Less windy days I like the JD Slump busters in chartreuse of corse with a curly tail grub tied about a ft above the slab with a dropper loop knot all lure from www.moestackleshop.com ... my best depths have been 27-30 ft water.. Hybrids are mixed in .. I have dates available if interested ... I might run some more party boats trips until spring break rally kicks in ... John really put us on the fish. We filled out our limits and continued to catch 14-16" sandies for another hour and a half. The size of the average fish was impressive for any lake in North Texas. Yep, my last trip on RH, I measured one at 16.5 inches that took the small 3" flukes on top of the slab. Of course when the touney comes all I catch are 10 inchers!!!

Had repeat guest Top and killer Koy ...they also brought first timers Danial and Kenny ... We started out with North Winds 15-20 and fished an area that's a little more wind protected ... That resulting in nothing but some lost lures ...so we headed out to the windy part ...and got lucky and the wind died down a tad bit it wasn't long before we had fish on

Had repeat guest Kathy and Stacy and they brought first timer Dee with them, also Mr. WL joined us as well.. We knew the winds were gonna be bad and we had a short window ... Left the marina at 8:00 am and had there limit of white bass by 9:30 am ... We continued hammering fish till 10:30 am when the wind was just too much and unsafe ...





Winds Friday were a brisk 15-20 mph N and Saturday they were 10-25 mph S ... All fish caught on 1.5 oz God Father Slabs with either curly tail toppers or the new DD Dead head jig from www.moestackleshop.com ... The last 4 trips I have done we have kept 350 white bass and released a few more hundred ... Except for the lures we lost , a few , I haven't had to change a hook or replace any lures ... That's quality ... My target depth as been 26-27 ft but today started out a little deeper , 29 ft, and caught fish but they ganged up in 27 ft the best ... Start marking fish and touch the bottom and a sloooowwww lift is the ticket ... Rods in the rod holder Are still producing fish but not as near as good as a slow raise ... Water temps were 50 degrees and that is a little colder than last week...but the fish haven't changed their patten for me in a solid month ... It will only get better . There might be a small period when they don't bite as well when they have love making on their minds I have some open dates so if ya wanna go ...give me a shout ... Been fishing Hubbard successfully for 15 yrs and guiding successfully for 8 yrs ... Hundreds of references and of corse , fish stories

As for quality, I prefer that my hooks to be cheap! I am tight with my hard earn dollar and wished that the hook would bend so Bogey could bring them back to me. And I am convinced the there is duck going around Ray Hubbard and Lewisville dropping trees where I fish!

How about this as a reference? Do NOT go out with John Varner cause I do not want you to learn to catch all the fish I am going to catch. My one cent.

John has got these fish dialed in. This weekend was WINDY!!! We all have our spots we can catch fish on sunny days, rainy days, freezing cold days, 110 degree hot days, but windy days we stay home like I did this weekend. John has fished this lake enough that he has a windy pattern as well. The pics are the proof in the pudding.

Winter has become my favorite time to fish now! And this winter is my best winter at the home lake by far. Several of my buddies stated the same. Guys, cheers for an awesome winter we had!

I would agree. I never did much winter fishing until this year. I want to thank all the people that gave advice on types of baits and methods for winter fishing. We have done very well dead sticking and jigging slabs late last year and early this year. I would say winter is becoming one of my favorite times to fish now. I will be adding an enclosure, with a heater to my T-top for next winter.

The last few days a heavier anchor would be the ticket!!

Larry , I personally would not anchor up in winds like that .. You could easily swamp the boat .

John, have you ever tried using your drift socks off the bow. Was thinking about last Friday when it was blowing pretty good. I would think it would be better and would slow you down a little more.

Mr Varner, I hate to call you out here but you are short changing yourself on how long you have been guiding!! Attached is a pic of my buddy Chris from the very first time I hired/met you!! Notice the date is almost exactly 9 years ago. I know for a fact you had been guiding at least 2 years prior to that!! I just wanted to set the record straight!! Keep doing good work!!

With the constant rising water , it has made fishing Lake Ray Hubbard quite interesting December 6, 2014 the water was 10.57 ft low and as of today it is 4.55 ft low . Most of the rise has come in the last couple months. I have caught fish as far up north of the lake as I can get to all the way south by the dam. Most of my fish have been caught in water 1-5 ft deep and I haven't found many on structure just yet . The lure that has worked best for me has been the 4 inch Co-Co Moe with a 1/2 jig head . I have used a few of the road runner style with curly tail grubs all you can get at www.moestackleshop.com . Trolling has been effective when you can't seem to locate a lot of fish shallow , unusual method for this time of year but it has worked . After the times that it has rained I have been throwing small crank baits shallow as it seems they "rattle" works better with the stained water . The fish I have caught the last week or so have spawned out and they are waiting for the shad spawn as I have only located small amounts of that . This time of year they should be everywhere and I do believe it will go into full swing any day . I have also caught a lot of smaller hybrids so please know the difference in the fish . Big hybrids have been sporadic but the ones I've caught have looked good . Please don't forget the 10th Annual TFF Whitebass tourney on May 30, 2015 .. The money raised helps us stock hybrids back into the lake . I have some dates open so give me a call PM . I have been fishing Lake Ray Hubbard for 20yrs and have been guiding on the lake for 12 plus years . It is so nice to see water in the lake again , although it has spread out the fish it is a blessing to get so much water in a short time

Just talking to one of the other Guides today and wondering why the heck haven't the shad spawn. That's the main difference in this and last year in late April. Water temp has been at 68/69 for a week. Other aspects of your Hubbard report are the same on RC.

Oh well...we'll look like heroes in a few days!

Very informative and true report! Winter was so good it's hard to wait for things to turn back on. Great pictures. Love seeing kids getting out fishing. Those are lifetime memories for them!

Lake Ray Hubbard went from 10.57 ft low in December of last year to 1.19 ft low as of today . The fishing has really picked up over the last couple weeks . This is one of my favorite times of year to fish . I am mainly fishing 1-5 ft water working Co-Co Moes swim baits with 1/2 rocket science jig heads . These fish will stay shallow all day , find a windy point , shallow flat or cove and start throwing . I have seen some days where they are blowing shad out of the water and that's great . Fish are also starting to show up on the humps and levees in 23-27 ft water and the SSS slab is working best for me with a curly tail grub about a foot above . Here is a tip , on these long points that has grass on them a month ago , throw a top water right over it and see what happens .. Has the weeks have gone by with the rising water this is what I have done .. The fish are in the grass and waiting all lure I use cone from www.moestackleshop.com .. Just ask Mike Oser for the Ray Hubbard set up and he knows what to throw in the box for you . I have some dates open in June so give me a call . I have been fishing Lake Ray Hubbard for 20 yrs and been guiding for 13 or so .. I would also like to point out that a lot and I mean a lot of baby hybrids are being caught .. So please know the difference .. If you are not sure just throw it back . I use to try to help people and point out the difference . I have changed my attitude about it now because of some anglers I know that know the difference . I will call the game warden and send them pics and your TX number from your boat . We all pay to help stock our lakes with hybrids either thru license or private donations . And before anybody ask .. The young man in the bottom pic is holding 2 under hybrids , right when he caught the double the bottom fell out and horrible rains came , we rushed over to the marina where I unhooked the fish , took a pic and released them .. We where trying to get to safety ..

Hey there boys and girls Been very busy and have not posted a repot in forever... The fishing on Hubbard has been very good.. I had one horrible day right after the cold front but everything was back to normal by Saturday. I have been catching limits of white bass almost every trip and I had the hybrids dialed in until that front came through and they disappeared on me. I am so glad to have water in the lake I noticed this weekend that the boat traffic has calmed down and that's a good thing I have open dates available since school, football and hunting is starting. Most of my white bass are coming in shallow water 10-13 ft deep and the hybrids in 24-28 ft of water.. the temps on the lake cooled down to 84 degrees after the front but will climb back up with the weather expected. Morning have produced little top water action and until the finally closed the gates on Lavon and Hubbard was pretty non around the lake. It was like fishing a giant river for a while I have over 20 yrs experience on Lake Ray Hubbard and 14 yrs guiding.. if you would like to learn a few techniques give me a shout.. Very nice JV....I saw you Saturday morning. I only managed a few fish. Saw a little topwater but they would only stay up for a short time.

I have heard a LOT of horrible reports about Ray Hubbard lately but yet JV is putting limits in the boats!! If you are one that is not catching a bunch of fishing it is time to re-evaluate the way you are fishing or call JV up and book a trip. We had a real good trip a couple weeks ago. I don't fish near as much as I use to especially out of my boat. I did get out with a good high school buddy yesterday morning a caught just shy of a two man limit in about 3 hours out of my boat!!

I did get to run the boat yesterday for about an hour. That was nice. Threw a lure a few times and caught a few but the broken hand is still broken and it wasn't comfortable.

John has been pulling some good sandbass out of the lake and some big Hybrids. The cooler weather is only going to make it better. He knows the lake as good as anyone out there and even more important he stays on top of the fishing patterns. Now is the time to go!!

In an effort to further my dead stick education I booked a trip with John Varner on Hubbard this morning. It was a cold start but within 20 minutes of getting on his boat our rods were bent over. It was interesting to see the subtle differences from other guide trips in how these guys do it. And to answer someone's question here from the other day we went from blank screens to stacked fish in about 8 minutes in a number of different spots. We threw fish in the box untill we didn't want to keep any more, then caught fish for a couple more hours until we didn't feel like doing it any more. Lots of fun. The hot ticket was a new lure from Moe's - the "Barbarian Teardrop". Its a bit smaller than the big sassy shad but these whites were tearing it up. Do yourself a favor and call Moe, then call John Varner. We caught fish like it was a warm spring day.

Its that time of year again boys and girls.. the fishing on Lake Ray Hubbard is picking up nicely and will only get better.. I have been catching fish in 17-24 ft water on most days.. the fish are spawning on long points, flats and sand bars. Water temps are 61-64 degrees. I have been using 3/4 oz Godfather and 1 oz SSS slabs from www.moestackleshop.com. The shad should spawn with the full moon coming up this month and it will be shallow time I have some dates available if any one wants to catch some fish or learn the lake.. we are great on the water situation !!! Fishing on Lake Ray Hubbard was a little off this week .. With the rains last week , muddy water and spawning conditions we had to burn a lot of fuel and check multiple spots .. The Shad spawn just started and we caught a few fish shallow but not many .. That will improve in the next few days . Most of our fish are still in 16-20 ft water on windy points and sandy flats . The 3/4 and 1 oz godfather slab from Moe's Tackle Shop is what I am using . Water temps warmed up to a nice 71 degrees during the day . I have a few openings so give me a call !! I have fished Lake Ray Hubbard for over 20 yrs and been guiding over 12 ..

Lake Ray Hubbard is fishing the best I have seen in a few years. Over the past couple of years with the low water conditions and lack of spawning from low river conditions fishing has been ok. These fish are on a roll.. Morning and afternoons have been fantastic. I have caught fish schooling with top waters, slabs on bottom and mid depth swim baits.. Long points, edges of flats and humps have produced.Most all fish have been caught with lures from www.moestackleshop.com . I have fished this lake for over 20 yrs and guiding for over 10 yrs .. if you would like to have some fun or learn the lake give me a call. Most of the sandbass we are catching are huge ...please be careful.. alot of baby hybrids in the mix and the game warden will not be happy if he finds them in your box I have just a few open dates in June so give me a call.

Lake Ray Hubbard is still fishing good , we had a day that it slowed after the storms but turned back around .. Afternoon bite is very good . I also participated in the huge Fisher Matt's Weekend on Cedar Creek once again .. This is my 10th year doing this and it is an all around great event .. We had 6 guide boats all together . All fish have been caught on 3/4 oz - 1 oz slabs from Moe's Tackle Shop ... The fished moved a little deeper as I found them in more of the 27-29 ft range ... Water temps where 72-75 degrees ... I have openings for June and school is almost out .. Give me a call !!

Lake Ray Hubbard is fishing fantastic !!! The early morning bite is a little slow.. but mid morning and afternoons are great.. I have been catching fish on points , humps and levees in 14-29 ft of water.. I know that's a big variation but they are moving .. they also seem to have rockets tied to their tails you will find them .. catch a load then poof !!! GONE.. All my fish have been caught using 3/4- 1 oz slabs from www.moestackleshop.com .. doesn't seem to matter which ones as long as you do a slow lift presentation.. these fish are hugging the bottom, you have to know how to find them.. once you catch a few and get them excited the screen just blows up. I haven't seen any top water action but that should start soon.. with all the rains and water then temps have remained cool .. 73-76 degrees ... I have over 20 yrs fishing Lake Ray Hubbard well over 10 yrs guiding.. give me a call if you want to catch some fish or better yet.. if you fish already and are having a hard time ... I have caught all my fish on 3/4 SSS , Godfather slabs and tailspinners from www.moestackleshop.com.. water temps warmed up to 80 degrees some days..

Lake Ray Hubbard is producing quality white bass .. I had 1 tough day ( Saturday) and have no reasonable answer as to why .. All fish are still being caught on 3/4 oz - 1 oz chartreuse slabs from www.moestackleshop.com in water 12-18 ft .. The water temps raised up to 87-89 degrees with the heat wave .. I have dates open in July so give me a call !!! I will not be doing any weekend AFTERNOON trip till after Labor Day .. The boat traffic is just to much ..

Lake Ray Hubbard is still producing quality white bass even has the temps heat up !!! Most fish have been caught in 12-24 ft water on slabs from www.moestackleshop.com .. Water has stayed steady at 85-87 degrees .. When you find fish in the deeper water , BURN your slab 5 cranks and release ... I have dates open in July so give me a call !!! We will start 6:00 am and off the water by 11:00 am before the heat !!

Had a great Wednesday afternoon with my guest .. Catch and release trip .. It was non stop action for over an hour and some huge white bass .. All fish where caught with SSS 3D eyes slabs from www.moestackleshop.com in 24 ft water .. I have openings in July so give me a call !!

Lake Ray Hubbard has been fishing pretty well this summer and have been lucky enough to have a bunch of catch and release trips . Top water schooling started over a week ago and the whitebass I have been catching are pretty shallow.. There also has been schooling in deep water (30 + FT ) throughout the day but those fish are being at the right place at the right time kind of deal.. I have been catching my fish on Tail spinners and later slabs in 5-15 ft water . I switched over to soft plastics this weekend and did really well, the fish are chasing 3-4 in shad and have used a ½ jig head .All lure from www.moestackleshop.com .. Saturdays are a little tougher because of the boat traffic, if you are reading this and do not know.. it’s really counterproductive to drive around in 5 ft of water with your big engine running looking for schooling fish .. get upwind in the deeper water and just drift across the shallow water .. Hybrids have been tough to catch , I have heard of really late afternoons of some being caught.. but I won’t be out there in 100 degree July heat .. I have some opening and school is fixing to start.. we are starting at 6:00am and hopefully off by 11:00 am before it gets too hot and the recreation boats get to much to handle..

Lake Ray Hubbard summer time hot weather report !!

Temps got really hot this week , we went from schooling white bass the week before to suspended deep water fishing . The full moon played some havoc on the morning bite , although I heard the afternoon was really good if you could stand the 105 degree temps .. I had a really tough early morning one day , but picked up late morning . If the traffic wouldn't have got so bad we could have done better that day . Early in the morning was marking fish suspended in the 10-17 ft range in open water moving really fast .. We used 1/2 jig heads and 3 in Co Co Moes from www.moestackleshop.com , as the morning moved on they would suspend about 6 ft from the bottom and a toss and long lift caught fish . I started doing some trolling that was really effective as well .. Lots of catch and release lately and I kinda like that on hot day .. Lol .. School is fixing to start and I have some days open in August so get the kids out !!! We have been starting at 6:00 am and trying to be back at the dock by 10:30-11:30 am before you burn up ..

These pictures are making me wish I could be back out on the lake! Looks like the fishing is hot down there!

Hey man! If I recall you stopped making flies and went off to school? Is that right or am I just crazy? My wife and I LOVED your flies!
